That's only to notify the reader that the law enforcement quotes are quoted verbatim and the mistake it marks appears in the source report -- i.e. where you'd find a [sic] -- and that it's not The Star's own misspellings.

 

I would say the fuss is him and his goons trying to get into a woman's car who is clearly very uncomfortable and them continuing to double down on being creepy.
