I think the Jags OL will be fine enough if not good

 

Foles is a good 2x better than Brissett imo and that’s worth paying starting salary rather than backup salary. The disparity in numbers between starters and backups is always gonna be huge. That’s a false parallel that you’re making to suggest it’s directly proportionate to talent. It’s more like either you’re expected to be a starter or you’re not.

If the Colts win that division somehow I do not see Brissett beating any playoff teams. Foles already has beaten several of them.

 

I think we need more than one season to say anything for sure about Brissett. That 2017 Colts team was rough.

He didn't even play all of 2017, i think.

But also the Colts have lots of money for talent in the future and the Jags are trying to figure out how to pay their defense so that adds another layer to the decision making

 

Like I almost think the Colts getting Foles and the Jags getting Brissett could've been better for the long term for both teams? But that's pretending like the Colts aren't getting Lawrence which they are.

Yeah, but I just think we need to cut some of the players we’ve been clinging to. Marcell Dareus is gone for sure ($11M) and also Foles cap hit goes down after this frontloaded first year (at least $6M drop). I think it’s likely Lee is cut after the season as well ($9M) unless he seriously outperforms Chark AND Conley. I’m also leaning “no” on resigning Taven Bryan down the road or extending Bouye a second time once Ramsey’s big dick numbers kick in.

Andrew Norwell earns a LOT ($13.5M I think?) he’s like a top 3 paid guard, so we better see Pro Bowl guard blocking this year, he was just “above average” last year

I also don’t think those numbers reflect Telvin Smith not earning his game checks. ($12M)

Yeah that’s $12.5 million added to our cap space if he remains on hiatus / retired

 

I edited the post and yeah, not even counting Norwell and Bouye being asked to restructure their contracts, and not even counting the Taven Bryan decision...

everything I just said adds like $38M to our cap space without even really hurting the roster much (Telvin being absent definitely hurts but we don’t have a choice in that)

That plus the cap space we currently have is enough to front load Ramsey and Yannick’s guaranteed money on their deals. And I say, if we have to... trade Norwell to make space for Myles Jack and prioritize G in the draft, or we could even franchise tag Jack to buy time until Campbell ages out of his contract.

We are broke but we have ways of moving that money. It just makes perfect sense we can’t sign any of our guys until after the season.

 

The Steelers get relief from Antonio Brown's dead money next year and are still in cap hell
