This reminds me so much of Brandon Webb. He was a brilliant pitcher on the way to having a hall of fame career before his shoulder gave out on him. He went through multiple cycles of rehab for five years before retiring. Like him, Andrew Luck was broken by the sport he played, period. It's good to see he has the strength to walk away this early in his career. Because really, to him, it doesn't feel early. He probably feels like he's been around for a long time with the pain he's been going through. Shame on those who want to shit on him for it.

It's mind boggling to me how people haven't given a shit about his mental health considering he said he was mentally exhausted.

If you think less of an athlete for retiring early you are an absolute hater

To a lot of idiots, that sounds like he's weak. Constant physical pain can cause a myriad of mental health issues. Some people don't understand it's not about "toughness" or whatever bullshit they think.

I imagine him being injured is like chasing health knowing you’re never gonna get it. That’s gotta he really frustrating chasing after something like that for a while.

Part of Luck's charm was the major dork he was.

  14. That guy was just trying to bring perspective to the situation. There was no need to blast him like that. It's great Luck is retiring on his terms and is able to walk away. It's great he recognizes the strain on his body and mental health. But recognize the amount of privilege one has when they can end their career at 30 after having made millions.

He phrased it as poorly as he could have. He was just trying to say workers allover the country have similar health issues but they can't just walk away like that because they aren't properly taken care of nor have any kind of money to sit on until they're ready to return.

For anyone who did the Mock draft where @buttsaywat took a safety and was mocked...

He says “Not holding any grudges but remember when the chorus forum gave me shit for drafting a safety when the packers had josh jones. Well josh jones just got cut”

    Just sharing lol

Yeah my point wasn’t that everyone including Luck should have to tough it out until they completely breakdown lol. That would be some “well I don’t have summers off so teachers shouldn’t either” bullshit. It would be best if everyone had the benefit and financial flexibility to just retire or switch careers after a break when they burnout. But to say pro athletes have it harder than most working class people is a little ignorant and kind of gaslighting imo. Just a little overboard. I still feel bad for Luck and think he’s awesome. Hope he comes out of this happy.

The original point was that pro athletes do have it much harder compared to normal people when it comes to having a career where being physically beaten and long term injuries are a daily issue, which is true.

Long term injuries are a daily issue for tens of millions of people in all kinds of professions. Go sit in a workers comp court for a day or two. You'll also notice that when many people are injured at work they only get a fraction of their pay and have to fight like hell to get physical therapy.

That’s a false equivalency. Being a worker and getting hurt on the job, especially long term, is uncommon. NFL players get destroyed every single day.

They said their job takes more of a toll on them physically. Which is 100% true.

Plus the people tweeting this shit are just mad that their QB retired and their team will suck. It’s not like they are bringing these arguments out in a constructive way at all lmao.

We get what you are saying, but like someone said, the context of this specific conversation matters
