Eh. Fournette's attitude was shitty this season. It's not just on Coughlin.

 

I might have to walk back my opinion a year from now and I'm ready for that. But overall Coughlin is an upper half coach / admin in the NFL in terms of his resume, and just the experience to know what kind of standards to uphold to compete. As much as I love Fournette, he should be trying to keep Coughlin happy during his rookie contract, not the other way around. Coughlin is the one in the senior role and the one who has competed in playoffs / won Superbowls. He wasn't wrong when he told Fournette to get his act together.

Fournette is the one who has something to prove. He is being arrogant to think he can hold the cards here when he hasn't proven he can even stay on the field, much less stay motivated when things aren't going well. We can be biased cause he's a good player all we want but the way he's been acting is not a good look. Are we surprised he lost his guarantees for running across the field, from the bench, just to punch Shaq Lawson? No, that's what fucking happens and he should be groveling for redemption, not buffing his chest.

 

Quick response there. If you actually read what I said you'd realize I was making sense haha. Of all the times you push me to be more critical of Jags players, you will not do that with anyone from LSU.

 

This is literally not true at all lol. I'm not saying Fournette is free of blame or that he didn't play poorly. I even said coming out I'm worried about injury with him. It would be more accurate to say I don't like Coughlin.

 

I really just don't get why you don't like Coughlin. The only consistent thing you've told me is "he's old". And?? Are we giving him zero credit and giving shittier Caldwell and Marrone all the credit for the AFCCG run a year ago? Because from where I'm standing he kinda straightened things up when he got here, and our coaches are to blame for fumbling up a follow-up season that didn't go their way and didn't keep a healthy team together. Also failing to gameplan against better opponents.

Coughlin has had some mediocre seasons in NYG... and all of those can be explained by the team having too many old veterans. His competitive resume in the NFL is legitimately a lot better than the median NFL coach / administrator.

 

His first move of this year was bringing in Capers. Come on. He's an old jackass good ole boy who prefers to give jobs to his friends than shake things up and try something different.

 

He brought Capers in to focus on what he's good at. I think that wasn't the worst move. Todd Wash clearly needs help calling coverages; Capers clearly struggles to generate pressure. The two balance each other out. Kinda like how Marrone knows offensive line & how to run the ball but needs a good QB coach / OC to have any semblance of passing.

Giving Wash more responsibility trying to gameplan against offensive weapons, and putting the DL in Marion Hobby's hands, didn't work very well last year. So we shifted the focus, and now Wash is back on coaching front 7 with a focus on DL where he's always been good, and Capers definitely has at least had success with DBs throughout his career.

 

There's a kicker coming out named Jet Toner.
