them being voluntary is not a team-based thing, its in the CBA IIRC

anyways thats fine if none of you agree, it just rubs me the wrong way is all

 

I feel like it would be important to show up to build relationships with teammates, understand your new coaches, set your expectations with the QB (in these instances).

 

If the player is still working out on his own and not just vacaying it up then I’m ok with it. But he shows up to the mandatory workouts out of shape it’s a problem.

 

If you can skip lecture and still ace your exam it’s a non issue

If you’re skipping lecture and not learning, therefore not doing well in class then you should come to lectures. This logic is fairly parallel imo

Edit: I know it’s different given the team dynamic of this, but there’s plenty of ways to build relationships outside of OTA’s too

 

Brady skipped following a massive report about how he and bill hate each other. It was def cause for concern.

 

Question about how players get paid:

Do they only receive their salary (forget about bonuses) during the season? Like whatever their contract amount is divided by 17 is how they get paid? Can you choose to spread it out over the course of the year?

 

Correct. Their base-salary is divided up into game-checks. Signing bonuses are upfront. Some other bonuses are triggered by performance, amount of games on active roster, etc...

 

I guess if teams really wanted people to show up for OTAs, maybe you'd put some kind of bonus in the contract for it, if that's allowed.

 

It is, and some teams do. They're called workout bonuses. Most teams don't use them, which is why the players are like, k thx, see ya later, and then coaches get in a tizzy.

 

I tend to agree with you. In my mind it comes off like saying they're more important than the team. The actual work being done at OTA's may not be absolutely critical for success, but I don't think that's the whole point.

yes, I get that its voluntary. But it still is a bad look.

regarding Bell- apparently Steve McClendon spoke to him and told him that a lot of his teammates think he should be at camp and Bell said fuck it and didnt come anyways.

 

Panthers flex Friday looks fun as hell. Cam can definitely come off as a goober sometimes but he is always boosting team morale in the offseason.

 

While I agree with the sentiment, guys who need to worry about having a job should to go to OTA’s but OBJ doesnt have that worry

 

DJax showed up to Eagles OTA's so that made me happy, if you're new to the team you should go imo.

 

Yeah. UDFAs, guys who risk getting cut due to new talent, etc. It's still great for anyone to show up and try to make the team experience better, but I don't blame a guy if he's still being active and keeping in shape.

For OBJ, I have no ill will for him only showing up for one day of OTAs. He had injuries affect him the last two years, so playing it safe is just fine. He's been great so far in supporting the team and the community. He even has a youth football camp set up for July.

 

I couldn’t give any less of a shit about Bell not showing up at voluntary stuff. Dude has been working out like crazy according to his Instagram. I’m not worried about it at all Darnold is crushing it and that is what matters more to me

 

can't wait for the first time Bell misses a blitz pickup tbh

I wonder what the bar is for Bell this season though. I could see him being top ten in scrimmage yards, TDs, and YPC, possibly top five.

Barring injury, what's the "worst" he could play and still be considered to be on his normal quality of play?

Gase won't give him enough carries for him to be that high IMO

 

I started looking at his stats and man, I guess I didn't realize how much time he has missed. He's been in the league for 6 seasons (96 potential games) and he's only played in 62, which is only 65% of the time.

 

He’d need to average at least ~100 combined yards a game. It wouldn’t surprise me if he did or didn’t meet that

 

He's in the top five all time scrimmage yards per game for now, Zeke being #1, but I could see both of them falling playing more seasons, obviously.
