My take is wrong because I still don't know where to put Wentz in my mind

That's really not that bad of a situation though hahaha. Like, Dallas is treating ONE year with having an average line as armageddon when most teams deal with worse than that nonstop.

Coaching/coordinating definitely wasn't great. But a lot of the QBs are similar in that regard too.

 

Also, Dak head-and-shoulders outplayed Goff the last 90 days or so and it's not even close, but Goff is still better, right? Even with the better roster and coaching by a mile?

 

You’re talking about one season man. Dak has gotten to work with the same scheme and mostly the same player core his whole career so far. He lost Dez but gained Amari who is better than dez is at this age. And Dallas line can struggle / be hurt for a few weeks and still be considered among the more talented in the league. Everyone’s line deals with injuries not just the Cowboys

The line was not average this year. The pass blocking was below average to awful most the year. Their coach got fired midseason, for crying out loud. How do people not see this? I think you do, but most people must not actually watch our games because they were terrible at pass blocking.

 

This is basically the correct take. Though I also believe they should Donald Sterling/Jerry Richardson him out of his team because Fuck the Patriots. And hopefully Belichick has an out clause and can go coach somewhere else right away and Brady can go to shit for his final few years.

 

While Wentz, Goff, and Mahomes have worked in the same scheme with much better players around them....

And looked REMARKABLY better once his best receiver wasn't Allen Hurns.

If you're grading the line as a whole, they average out to being average due to how great they were at run blocking.

But when we're discussing how good/bad a QB is behind that line, I'm absolutely going to say how terrible they were at pass blocking for most the year. Because they were. Their run blocking skills don't make up for it on pass plays.

 

They all show better pocket presence and anticipation. Dak isn’t asked to play with as much structure or make as many decisions.

 

I deleted my post because I blew up a bit. (massive headache)

But I absolutely think run blocking makes up for it on pass plays. If you can run block well your passing situations are gonna be a LOT less dire because you'll probably need less time in a pocket to make a play.

 

And with Amari, he was substantially above average without a doubt. And if you think their line was considered one of the more talented lines in the league, then you weren't watching. They're one of the worst at pass blocking.

 

Perhaps it has to do with three out of four of them being under three of the four best coaches in the league.

Trubisky does not have better pocket presence. Goff's anticipation is not better either.

 

If your 2nd down is gonna be 5 yards or less because of how well you run block, your pass blocking doesn't need to be nearly as good

 

(But FWIW I have Dak above Goff and don't have Wentz in my rankings yet)

 

Well, agree to disagree on that because players were up in Dak's face near instantly the majority of the year.

 

And obviously, no animosity towards anyone in this discussion, it's all good.

Yeah, I mean y'alls straight up could be the worst overall and we're not near that ourselves, but they're closer to the worst than they are to the best and that's all I'm saying, but people still think they're near their 2016 selves and they just aren't.

 

Mahomes has had a year of starting dude lol come on. Goff is also younger in the league and only recently got the team support he has now. Wentz has had to deal with two major injury setbacks and also had a lot less starts than Dak.

I think there isn’t much space between Dak and Carr / Tannehill. I think Goff has problems in the pocket and so does Dak, but Dak’s offense schemes more QB rollouts & bootlegs to hide this while Goff is being asked to throw like Kurt Warner. And Goff has shown at times he can handle much more volume and gameplan pressure than Dak. Like beating KC 54-51, that’s a damn good win I don’t care what you have to say about Goffs flaws at that point.

I think you just like Dak and you’re not realizing other QBs I’ve been mentioning have posted similar stats when their team was clicking as well.
