That's very excessive and obviously terrible. I don't want to say "well, it's Texas" because that's lazy & I don't particularly know much about their transportation politics. Based on the governing parties it is hard to assume it's any good, in fact it's pretty bad in the overwhelming majority of places so it's not very unique to Texas to begin with.

I wouldn't know enough to fully comment on it either, but a big part of it is what I mentioned earlier today in that we're simply overpopulated. The DFW metroplex is the 4th largest metroplex in the country with nearly 8,000,000 people now.

Well, what are they doing with all those taxes then? Cause clearly people need that highway finished, that's ridiculous. The fact that there's such a high population makes it even more ridiculous that they're taking their sweet time when it's clear they should have enough to git r done.

I feel like they're pretty close, they just have their slight differences in what ways their public transportation is bad haha

So it's twice as bad as I already thought then? Haha

Don't most major cities toll a good amount though?

At least you guys have DART

If we want to go from North Austin to downtown Austin, this fake ass metro train system takes almost two hours to go less than 20 miles.

    Public transit is awful.

Didn't Florida just get a brand new train system a year or two ago?

I happily drive on the toll roads here, especially on the way home.

I'm not sure, the only places I've had real big tolling situations in are Texas and in NYC

Yeah the benefit with Austin is that some things are at least somewhat close together but in terms of resources available to get between those places it's terrible

Do they still have the "no Uber/Lyft" thing happening? I can't remember if that ended up getting shot down

I live on the intersection of 2 toll roads so to exist I have to take a tollway

Somehow Oklahoma is in the top 3, did not see that coming

And of course Florida is in there LOL at least they got new trains tho

    Nope. Supporter

Colorado is doing this thing where they've added tolls to already established lanes (the far left lane) on our highways, but most people just avoid that lane to not pay the toll so we're down a lane basically and it's created more traffic

    Real brilliant stuff here

I haven't the foggiest how it all has shaken out over the last couple decades but I do remember that for a while they were widening one specific part of the highway to 3 lanes and after a while it was clear that 4 or more lanes was needed, so a ton of it has to basically be done all over again.

Oh yeah Oklahoma tolls like crazy

I haven't made a drive deep into Oklahoma in a while but they have some crazy tolling going on there

  18. Max_123

    Nope. Supporter

My fastest way to get home is a toll road but it's super expensive, I think it's like the most expensive stretch of road in the country from what i've heard, because we decided to let a private company build it for us so they're just raking us over the coals on the bond

    Again, real brilliant stuff

We added that to one of our highways and it surprisingly worked

    Nope. Supporter

I have no idea if it's working from a funding standpoint but like from a traffic standpoint it's the fucking worst lol

    Uber and Lyft are back.

It’s only useful if we’re down south because a ride from central and north Austin costs about $30.

I’d rather just drive down and try to find parking.

    Thank god hahaha

My wife uses Lyft exclusively for her commute and has a (monthly/weekly/can't remember) pass so she pays a flat rate for it

Wasn't sure if that'd become an issue once we relocate there

I mean, having a private org do it instead of like idk, employing your own local companies to build the roads so it's built with regulations to make sure it runs better and lasts longer definitely seems like a bad idea. But it happens plenty, unfortunately.
