I think cost of living is a big factor as well

But idc about cost of living if I'm going to the PNW it'll be when I'm well off enough to do so and I wanna go major city

 

Olympia, man. 90 minutes from Portland and Seattle but also cheap af comparitvely

 

Overall it sucks but it's more fun than the DEEP midwest and I take absurdly hot summers over absurdly cold winters.

I will say Minneapolis, Chicago, & northern Ohio / western PA are interesting to me though. Also STL and KC. I could leave the rest of the Midwest.

 

Its legit not more fun than the midwest though haha. Thats a bonkers statement.

 

I adjusted it. I don't mean the whole midwest. Midwest does have big cities that are way better. But that's because they are big cities and it's kinda unfair to compare Jax to a city 3x as developed.

 

So basically you're comparing a city to noncities as if that means something haha. Like yeah of course Jacksonville is better than springfield, illinois lol. It's not better than, say, Madison or anything though.

 

Madison was one of the exceptions in the back of my mind. Yes I'd take Madison over Jax.

But many reasons people hate Florida are also true of the midwest. Flat & uninspiring terrain. Dead old racist towns. Extreme humidity in the summer. It's just the midwest also lacks great swimming spots / tropical nature and has even worse weather overall haha.

i especially don't see how anyone could choose any city in Oklahoma or Kansas over Jacksonville Florida. There are much more bland populated places in this country than a place with amazing waterways and outdoor activities haha. Jax isn't a great city but the area does have a ton of great recreation.

 

KC is in Kansas.

But yes, I don't take Oklahoma over anywhere in Florida. I said one of the worst, not the worst. Though El Paso and OKC and Tulsa at least have reasons to be shitty.

Spokane isn't the PNW though lol...it's like a dry desert climate. It's a whole hell of a lot more affordable than the Puget Sound area, though. Big time.

I hear ya. I'm glad we built our house when we did because if we had to wait until like..say...now? We probably wouldn't have been able to do it where we are. We aren't even in a highly desirable area or anything but we are in a good area.

If you want to live in one of the highly "desirable" areas...i.e. Bellevue/Redmond/Issaquah---you aren't finding a home (modern) for under a mil and even then, it'll be small. You need a good 2M to slot into a nice home in that area...just wild.

 

KC is in Missouri.

Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska, pretty much all of Illinois that isn't Chicago, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas if that counts, those areas are all less interesting to me than northeast Florida. I'll credit you and say Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, PA, Michigan are cooler and Kentucky is more beautiful because of the mountains. Missouri is only better because of KC and STL the rest of the state can go to hell.

Florida is a middle of the pack U.S. state. It's better than the bad ones but not as good as the good ones lol.

 

I've been trying to convince my brother that Madison is better than Jacksonville for years. But, his wife (who is from Jax) is a tougher sell.

The real estate prices there are crazy - I look at listings frequently for kicks (and to make myself feel better about things). My brother wants to buy someday, and I don't envy him.

State wise is different. Jax is the 2nd worst city in the state. Also, Indy, Omaha, Des Moines, and Ames are all better than Jax.

 

I think he's more certain in a 3-4 than a 4-3. As a 4-3 I feel he lacks strength and balance.

Nope lol. The smaller suburbs are on that side and the urban area ends at the river. This is like saying St. Louis is in Illinois.

I just don't agree with any of this haha.

Orlando may have "more shit" but I'd rather live in Jax than Orlando. Orlando is a fucking mess and for a city twice the size, its urban area is still really underwhelming. It's like they said "well we already built Disney and Universal so let's make downtown all work and no play." That city has all the bad and none of the good things about a major city to me. And also its less accessible to nice Florida nature / swimming spots.

Orlando is absurdly better than Jacksonville. Unless you like *googles* guessing if its coke or meth

 

Orlando has a great club scene and great theme parks.

I hate clubs (prefer hangout bars) and I hate roller coasters.

Other than that, everything else that's cool about Orlando is better in other parts of Florida.

I will agree with you that Orlando's music scene is much better than Jax. Lots of amazing math rock bands.
