My friend started a job in Dallas on 4/1 and was taking the express lanes and racked up $600+ in fees already without realizing it would be so much.

 

If this ends up w Allen fired, okay then.

 

Fair but you still didn't go to any good venues. This is a deflection because you know i raise a good point. You never saw the spots that I like and that made living in Jax sometimes decent for me. You're shitting on it based on bars and areas i hated and never went to after the first 1-2 times. Naturally I get defensive because you won't even give credit where it's due.

for all intents and purposes daily commute is like 80% of driving. If commuting stresses you out that much then you don't really like driving haha. You can't just blink and then everyone else disappears from the road.

Well, that's the I-10 / I-95 exchange. That's not Atlantic Blvd anymore haha.

This is probably the worst part of the city. I'd love to take a bus/ trolley to work, but it'd take forever and two buses to get across the city to my office.

Oh god, yeah it's expensive as hell. It sucks that it's basically impossible to work in Dallas without dealing with toll roads in some capacity. It used to cost me like $25 a day to drive to and from work in tolls

 

I am so angry that this entire conversation happened while I was at lunch

 

I think if I could pick one group of people whom I envy most, it would be financially stable residents of the PNW. My other brother lives in Seattle, and while I don't know if I'd like living in the city proper, the whole PNW is just gorgeous. But, I know I'd never be able to afford living there, so it just sits at the top of my preferred vacation spots.

 

She found a way around paying any fees to and from work, but it adds about 30 minutes per trip, so she's 2+ hours a day now total :\

Sucks

 

My wife desperately wants to live in Spokane and frequently sends me affordable real estate listings there haha

 

okay? It has some cool things that are present in literally every other city in the nation.

At least they have to acquiesce to tax because of the state they're in so it's debatable

 

Chattanooga is the halfway point between Atlanta and Nashville and is worth a day trip to see the aquarium, eat/drink, walk along the river, etc

 

I'll sum up Jacksonville / northeast Florida for you.

BAD
-Urban area & urban life sucks. There are at least a handful of really cool bars but it's not like a major-city bar scene.
-Mass transit sucks. It's not centralized so everything cool is spread out.
-People mostly suck, it can be redneck but it's actually more so just two-faced culture & feeling like you have to have empty conversations with people who don't actually care. A lot of pretend politeness. Racism / sexism / homophobia isn't openly spoken but subtle prejudice is way too common for 2019
-It's absurdly hot/humid. I know you know this but it bears repeating. Summer fuckin SUCKS.
-If you have bad allergies, they are worse here than anywhere else.
-There's way too many mosquitos and cockroaches (and fleas if you have pets.) This part is the worst.

GOOD
-It's got great wildlife & water, beach / springs / river are all dope. It's an especially great place to be on boats. Every area has SOME great swimming & fishing spots, but here they're EVERYWHERE, so accessible that you can go swim in a non-crowded spot and be home in time to cook dinner.
-the attractions will surprise you. The zoo, botanical gardens & go-kart track are way better than I expected for Jax.
-There actually is a lot of ethnic diversity in the food options. (But. Late night options are nearly nonexistent.)
-St. Augustine counts! It's only 30 minutes away. That place actually DOES have great urban life & bar scene. Very historic too.
-While the downtown is sad and lacks excitement, that makes the riverwalk & bridges & fountains really nice actually. You almost have the city to yourself.

 

Washington state is GORGEOUS. Check out Olympia. Spokane is well known for meth and nazis
