I enjoy living in the Midwest

 

The Midwest is fine I just hate winter

 

I'm sorry y'all but I definitely take Jax beaches, springs, rivers, springs, water views over most of the Midwest. Also, while I've grown to hate how hot Florida is I still take it over a Midwest winter. Spring & Fall are sublime down here.

There are bigger midwest cities that are way cooler but like, total no way on choosing Indianapoils over Jax. No way. The like 5 people I know that live in that area are miserable haha

 

Here is a list of cities + or - 25% of Jacksonville's population.

City population doesn't matter. Metropolitan population is a much more accurate gauge of how big a city is.

For example, Atlanta has a smaller downtown population than Jacksonville... but the Atlanta area is 5 to 6 times as populous as the Jax area

 

Would take all over JAX except maybe El Paso or Columbus (or San Francisco if I had to pay to live in San Francisco)

Metro DFW has a population of 6.8 million

 

As do I. Yes, the winter isn't great, but I'm also used to it at this point. Plus, if I can't land a decent job here, I'm definitely not going to be able to in a "better" location.

 

If you'd prefer a list by population density I have that data too as recently as 2016.

 

DC is tiny in terms of city area. It can barely fit 500,000 people in it because there's a ban on high rises in the city, buildings can't be taller than the government buildings by code. However, the DC area / workforce / traffic comprises more like 6.5-7 million people.

 

Whys everyone hating on JAX so much? Been there once about 10 years ago, didn't think it was terrible

 

I don't love being landlocked so I don't think I'd like the midwest.

But not being a target of first strike nukes would be pretty cool.

Jacksonville meanwhile is the most gerrymandered city in the country, the city limits are expanded to the entirety of Duval county. So while the urban area is super small, Jax's large city population stretches 10 miles outside the urban area into straight empty farms. That shit is super misleading. If Jax city limits were actually the urban area it's population would be 250k or less.

 

Paid $650/month for a 3 bedroom townhome in central Texas

The downside was being in central Texas
