I’m a nerdy mixed-race guy with ADHD and anxiety. I grew up in a low-key VERY racist place, Orange Park / Middleburg FL. Southern MD was kinda the same way.

Now that I’m older it’s clear why I was an easy target. I never believed it was racism back then, no one ever called me the “n-word” or anything.. but that kind of culture is so pervasive that even POC children who live there tend to be oblivious to microaggressions because they’re so used to them.

Like. The white kids there won’t openly say racist things, they’ll bump hip hop and wear baggy Fubu and all that... but the black & Hispanic & Asian kids just got picked on more (and LGBT kids) while the white kids got respect

 

Also had lots of “friends” tokenize me and tell me I’m smarter or nicer than other POC, that I talk properly and don’t sound uneducated, etc. it’s messed up. For the longest time I felt reluctant to let people know I didn’t like that shit and that they were insulting half my family by saying that.

Kinda in the back of my mind felt they’d gaslight me and say I was pulling the race card and that they have black friends or whatever.

 

God I know so many people who had stuff like that said to them and like...I didn't tokenize but for some reason I didn't really see what was wrong at the time and now looking back I'm like "holy SHIT we all suck"

 

Accurate. After twenty years of this I just expect everything to be bad and awful and enjoy the surprise when they're mediocre

 

Yeah man for awhile I was so confused. My parents, who are both mixed with 5 or more races, had friends we’d have pool parties with. One of those times my friend’s dad literally told them “you two are alright but generally I just don’t believe races should mix.” What the fuck is that shit, how do you say that to someone all matter-of-fact like it’s just your humble opinion? He directly disrespected my family’s existence to their face

This happened right before the move to Maryland. But it’s crazy how, my parents both being in the military made them get used to and kind of accept casual racism like that to avoid conflict

 

That’s @CarpetElf. I prefer to delude myself year in and year out because football’s all about that hope and belief, baby.

I’m often disappointed, yeah, but that’s just how my clock ticks. Occasionally we are actually good and it’s cathartic when that happens.

Our front 7 is ridiculous I love our depth there

I'm cool with not having depth at corner and just having passable-to-great starters (we don't right now though so whatever) while having a loaded front 7

 

My current status: arguing with fellow Bills fans over why drafting Devin White is a luxury pick and also dumb considering the Bills 1) traded up for Edmunds last year, 2) need to finish the offense around Allen and 3) played over 50% of snaps in nickel/dime which would necessitate one of White, Edmunds or Matt Milano to be off the field frequently

It’s a delicate balance. The Jags only competitive edge right now is their defense so you don’t wanna lose what you’re good at. Right now I’m worried about Taven Bryan not panning out, Campbell declining or retiring, Yannick going to another team, the hole at FS causing our whole defense to get compromised by big plays, etc.

But at the same time Foles NEEDS a TE and at least one more solid offensive tackle to succeed in this barren offense. I feel like while I’d be thrilled to get Montez Sweat or Quinnen or Josh, the draft is still a failure if we don’t nab a tackle and a safety with our next two picks. and then we still need a receiving weapon. Ugh. Matt thinks TE is more necessary than FS.

This is why Jawaan Taylor is the only responsible move for us to make in round 1. We could easily miss all the quality OTs by round 2.

I just want Arizona to take Murray so that John Lynch can do the right thing and take Bosa at 2. If the Cards take him instead, things could get interesting.
