And my original comment was based on the assumption that when someone refers to a WR2 you could sign, it wasn’t purely “are they the WR2 on their team now” because hypothetically two monster talents could be on the same team and while one is technically second on their depth chart, nobody considers them to be on a WR2 talent level.

So I’m going off “would you rather sign a Zeke/Barkley/CMC level RB or Gallup?” in which I’d choose the RB.

 

If CMC signs for only $12 million I'll literally eat Michael Gallup.

 

Real talk - what do we pay George Kittle?

 

CMC might be the guy worth arguing for the money. Elliot, Barkley, Bell, etc...they're all great, but CMC is so much more versatile and his usage rates are insane. You get an elite RB and a WR2; and it comes with a high efficiency because you're hitting him on backfield or short routes that he's turning into 8+ yards/catch.

Honestly, I might buy him out now; get his year 24-28 seasons and get ahead of the 5th year option...like, get him to sign the Leveon Bell deal right now and you are in a spot to cut/trade him when he turns 27

 

This is something I am very interested in. Makes me wonder if he's been playing through his torn labrum since 2018 in the hopes of getting extended this offseason so he can then get the surgery with the security in place, as opposed to getting the surgery over the offseason and maybe not have been ready for the 2019 season or not 100% recovered yet.

Then again, he's playing through a torn labrum so he's clearly not 100%, but he's still balled out. Just pay the damn man what he wants

 

Yeah, I’m not sure if he can right now contract-wise but he could do what Lawrence did for us in refusing to get surgery until we extended him.

Kittle is going to get $15 million/year easy

 

If Kittle doesn't improve at all and just has the same year next year that he has this year, I wouldn't take $20/mil off the table.

Okay that’s kinda absurd haha. It would work if they legitimately could use him as an extra blocker and a receiver at the same time... but ultimately you have to split those snaps. He’s not actually worth BOTH a right tackle and a tight end, I think that’s not how that works haha

He’s versatile but he can only be one or the other at the same time

 

But like...the versatility itself is a valuable commodity. The tight end market really needs to be completely broken. Jimmy Graham was dead on when he said the franchise tag was bullshit for tight ends. That position is nowhere near what it used to be and has become more and more valuable to teams.

 

I mean, why pay any good players? What's the point? Let them volunteer or something

 

The Franchise rate for a tight end is ~11 million. That's a joke. Tell me to my face George Kittle is only as valuable as Tyler Lockett.

 

Tell me to my face that Travis Kelce is only as valuable as Golden Tate.

I think Lockett is awesome, but Kittle is definitely way more valuable, especially for Kyle Shanahan's scheme
