Between the incoming JJ on SNL and the Paul George-Kawhi Leonard Terminator commercial, Aaron Rodgers on State Farm commercials is pretty much Daniel Day-Lewis

 

Nothing beats Kawhi and a handful of other Spurs players mimicking a Tim & Eric skit PERFECTLY

 

Recently Laura had to go to urgent care (wasn't an urgent issue we just didn't have a doctor yet) and I was in the waiting room and SNL was on and I started watching like "you know I bet it's not as bad now as people say it is" and honestly it's even worse

I don't think the people on it are necessarily bad (well not ALL of them) but the format just does not work anymore with so much better accessible comedy and it's a trainwreck

 

Yeah most of the better SNL bits have been like the digital shorts/things that aren’t live for quite a while now

 

That’s a good point I haven’t ever really thought about. I’m sure it was cutting edge and unbelievably amazing when you only had 6 channels. Or even 80 cable channels. Basically once the ease of watching videos online, SNL just seems archaic and restricted with a few good moments here and there. Even then, I haven’t watched it live in a decade or more, just clips online.

 

are those commercials even shown outside of Texas?

They don't show em in Dallas, saw lots in SA and I see em a lot now too obviously

 

YUP. It's been real bad for like 20 years. But it keeps churning out great comedians somehow

 

It's such a hard job that you have to be sharp to do it, writing sketches in a week on a budget and cleaning em up and performing em live is insanely hard. It just isn't good comedy haha

 

Oh yeah it's incredibly hard. Needlessly hard.

 

I don't want SNL (and honestly never have really) but I imagine much of it's downfall is also related to just how instant everything is and how quickly the story changes. You can spend all week writing something that happened Monday and then it's out of the news and forgotten by the time you do the show

I definitely think so, and I think late night is that way too. Monologues/Weekend Update are dead as hell because you see better versions of the same jokes on Twitter the moment after the event happens. There's a lot of factors at the end of the day but that's one for sure.

 

Bill will go on to have a great second act as a comedian and i'm here for it

 

Is there a cast member that hasn't gone on to do anything? Even a writing job there is a kingmaker.

 

Even in the early 2000s when people considered it the golden age of snl, I didn't think it was that funny. I mostly watched for the special guest/musician, when I did.

 

He makes it so hard to hate him.

He made it pretty easy to hate him then yeah you're right.
