I think how Ramsey behaved was a slap in the face to our other players who ARE staying focused until their rookie deal is up. That’s what pissed me off. I could give two shits less how Coughlin feels about it.

I do support holdouts but not in this case where Ramsey wants money before any other rookie gets money. That’s just being entitled. It’s an ugly look to expect your contract to be handled any differently than every other first round pick, even if you are an elite player. He wasn’t being fucked over at all, he was being paid exactly how pick 5 overall usually gets paid, with more guaranteed money and a higher fifth year option than anyone drafted after him (plus the fifth year option is top 3 money for a CB, it’s not like he’s a DE.)

Even the ones who signed early deals, that money doesn’t kick in until at least next year. Some of them converted their 5th year option into signing bonus so it’s not like Ramsey is gonna get get paid more in year 5 either. Like, he made this an issue 2 years before it needed to be, because even if the Rams sign him now, he’s still gonna make the exact same money in 2019 and 2020. I just don’t get why a contract dispute even matters this soon when it’s totally a moot point until 2021. This is why I’m annoyed that he made a stink about this NOW and played all these childish games.

I should go into my job tomorrow and demand to be promoted to manager ahead of 3-4 people who have been training for it longer than me because I’m a better server. Again this is not like when Le’Veon Bell got tagged TWICE in a row. That is a team being disrespectful and not wanting to pay guarantees. In that case I am fully on the player’s side.

But the rookie contract is the rookie contract. Even if we extended Ramsey NOW like he demanded, his ‘19 and ‘20 cap hits wouldve been the same. So I don’t get the point in him declaring ultimatums 2 years early when it isn’t even gonna change anything.

 

He's acting like he wanted to be treated like the best player on the team, a priority to the organization and a fundamental building block. Instead, he was told to wait and wait and wait and wait even though they weren't moving forward with anything else. Where's Yannick's deal? So now he has to continue waiting and continue waiting. So he voiced his concerns, and was basically told to fuck off so he said cool I will, and he did.

 

I fully understand and respect that there are two sides to this. But pretending that being an NFL player is like any ordinary job is so ungodly silly.

 

He wasn’t told to “wait and wait and wait”. That is not the context. If he still didn’t get signed next year then we could start having this discussion.

 

See THAT'S where I'm at, but also I'm still not sure if this was ever a pay thing when it comes to the trade talks or if it legit was extremely bad blood with Coughlin over something else

It's something we'll likely never know, but if it WAS just about money I think he pulled the trigger on wanting a trade way too fast ESPECIALLY considering he'd been playing relatively down prior to this.

 

Anyone pretending like their regular day job is comparable to playing in the NFL and thinks NFL players demanding more money when they’re suffering severe brain damage weekly are “not in touch with the real world” are fucking lunatics
