Daniel Jones? I certified him as a “real” quarterback way back in the draft process. I’m just glad I seem to be right so far, despite my opinion being “against the grain” at the time, that he was the most promising quarterback drafted in the first few rounds.*

*you know who the fuck this asterisk is for.

Kyle Allen's in his 2nd year no need for the asterisk

I said most promising haha. I also said like, “most NFL ready” during draft season as well.

That doesn’t mean I don’t think he’s gonna hit a slump. He’ll have bad games. The speed of the NFL is different so he’ll probably throw picks since he mostly relies on anticipation.

It does mean he was a pretty good answer for the Giants imo and stands a good chance at becoming “the guy”

I definitely think it’s funny people acted like the Giants got swindled into reaching for Jones... when what actually happened is the Redskins coach DID want to trade up and Haskins WAS a lot more raw... and that was actually the Redskins front office being dumb, not the Giants

NFL Ready is just rhetoric. Its not real. Murray was a perfect fit for Kliff while Daniel wouldnt have been so who is more "NFL ready" there? Also, Mahomes and Watson. Trubisky was seen as the "NFL ready" one.

I feel like people look at how a QB operates in college and think "Welp, seems like this is the only way that QB can run an offense and make reads"

Eh it depends what you’re basing it off of. If you’re just looking at being able to drop back under Center then yeah I could see idiots saying Trubisky is more “ready” but not at ALL when you compare the reads those 3 QBs were making down the field. Watson and Mahomes were clearly smarter and more accurate who cares if Trubisky has a nice 5 step drop lol.

I think “NFL Ready” IS a thing if you look at it from all angles

Yup. And the opposite is also equally true. People look at a QB in college (like Mahomes or Watson) and say "they'll have trouble adjusting to playing completely different" as if the team drafting them wouldnt be dumb to do that instead of building around their strengths

Speaking of which, Lincoln Riley as the next Browns coach with Dan Quinn as DC/AHC? Who says no.

It’s not all about one player though. If you’re a run heavy offense you don’t want to totally reverse that just to baby a spread offense QB. I think teams just need to pick the best overall guy and both cater to his strengths while teaching him some of the things that matter more in the NFL than in college, like bootlegs / play action.

If you think he can’t handle the kind of offense you want to run then don’t draft him. But also don’t just look at his 5 step drops and act like that overrides which QB is the calmest under pressure or makes the best decisions. I think it’s a balance, it’s not all on the team, players gotta learn how to play at the next level / under different coaches and philosophies if they truly want long term success in the league. I just look for the smartest QB who has the least flaws that he still needs a lot of work on overall.

Daniel Jones was very well rounded and knew how to do a lot of things that most college Qb don’t. He was OVERALL the most NFL ready. Not just because of his technique doing a certain thing or whatever.

I mean I guess it is? I just think like...players are also people and they can have good work days and bad work days, or even find motivation in different ways to inspire a strong work ethic and implement good practice habits etc etc

I just think there's SO much that we don't see behind the scenes that ends up becoming a factor in how good a QB is and we can look at a full body of work from a college QB1 and call them "not NFL ready" just to have them become NFL ready once they're drafted

Then dont draft that guy haha. Simple as that. If the "best overall" guy isnt the best guy to run the offense then clearly he isnt the best overall guy

I've been lazy and pretty bad at every job I've had until this one where I have the best work ethic on the team and run this shit

And it's partly fit but a lot of it is getting proper $$$$$

Going to the NFL can change shit

Idk why I'm rambling none of this has anything to do with the Daniel Jones pick which was a good pick
