Yeah everyone knows that already but the details are still hilarious

 

Panthers said they kept calling the same couple run plays over and over against Jags because they had holes every time.

Yeah Quincy Williams is a rookie from Division II college football and he is playing Telvin Smith’s role. So.

 

Being a gap based defense, your linebackers gotta have correct instincts and be decisive about which gaps / run-fits to attack, or else it’s wide open.

We don’t ask our defensive linemen to two-gap, their job is to get upfield, occupy one blocker, and hold the point of attack. Our DL is best when they can be aggressive. We might have to re-evaluate this if we cant coach up who we have behind them, though. Myles Jack is still not as good as Telvin was in the first place and he can’t do it all by himself.

That was just a bad audible by Myles Jack. He’s trying to align everybody in man coverage to face their target as if it’s a pass play, at the last minute before the ball is snapped,

But first of all you better plan ahead for that kind of audible. Guys are distracted with too much movement and trying to process information and no one has their eyes in the backfield. Way too late to make that adjustment.

More importantly, WHY the fuck are you doing that against a team with a backup quarterback, on their own 16 yard line, that’s been killing you on the ground? After the first half CMC already had, they need to be staying in base sets to ensure everyone’s evenly dispersed for their responsibilities against the run.

Even on the off chance they DID pass; they were mostly throwing crossing routes anyway, it’s easier to cover that if you just stay put than if you try to mirror receivers! Makes NO sense in context of the game. I’m downgrading Jack’s Madden awareness.

Ronnie and Quincy ended up doubling up on strong side pursuit after the audible brought Ronnie down to the box, and they overpursued the play. Myles overcompensated by sliding to the right to cover the right hash / seam. (Wow, they didn’t call a pass play, what a surprise!!) This parted the ocean like Moses for McCaffrey to have a perfect cutback lane. Myles Jack literally moved out of his way right before the ball was snapped. Terrible.

 

Done and done.

 

McCaffrey giving a stiff arm to Josh Allen has been overshadowed by the flip into the endzone.
