My main point is show me the same numbers for every other quarterback when you remove their best season and see where he falls. That’s it.

Yeah but here, let’s take another non-elite QB who got overpaid and compare him to Dak: Matthew Stafford. I actually did the work to look up his 2017-2018 game logs and compare them to teams’ records those years. That’s a fair way to compare apples to apples, no?

Over the same time frame, against teams that went 8-8 or better, Stafford has thrown 22 TD and 13 INT. That’s almost a 2:1 ratio against good teams. Still a lot better than 23 & 18.

 

Sure, but this isn't about those QBs, and to be honest it's gaining traction because he's proven he isn't as good as some people make him out to be.

I’m not sure what the results will be but I’m just trying to illustrate the fact that I don’t think asserting a 1-1 ratio against good teams being “common” is accurate

Cousins went 28 TD & 12 INT against teams that went 8-8 or better in 2017 and 2018

So better than Stafford OR Dak. And he got $31M per year. Dak is asking for nearly $40M.

I think it’s very fair to say Dak has been underwhelming against good teams and that makes me not want to pay him top dollar. Stafford and Cousins are two very fair comparisons, especially considering most people would choose Dak over those two QB overall if they were asked to pick one regardless of stats.

So I think the fact the former two QBs have been definitively better against “winning teams” lately, is very intriguing, and definitely adjusts my perspective on this topic.

Cousins and Stafford’s teams were/are also a lot worse than Dak’s

 

I’d love William Jackson. He could be a sneaky good add for us. He’s better than many people give him credit for because the Bengals secondary is mostly booty. Plus, he’s in his mid-20s so he could be a good fit long-term as well.

 

I'm kinda wondering if the Falcons doing bad means Desmond Trufant could potentially be a tradeable piece. I feel like a guy like him who can be a great anchor is extremely valuable even if he isn't a massive playmaker. Especially given the fact that he'll probably do better just about anywhere than he is in Atlanta.

 

That being said I’d still pick Dak over Cousins just about any situation, though that’s less based on stats and more the times I’ve watched them.

 

ESPN talking heads do this all time but only for players that make their narrative headlines. They rip on Dak based on certain win/loss statistics for example but every single one of those guys goes out of their way to praise Aaron Rodgers as deserving of all the money in the world despite having pretty much the same issue:

But you'd never see this stat on ESPN or if it came up they would actually give it nuance or context, where for other players its just conclusive evidence of not deserving a big contract. I turned on First Take the other day and the topic was is Tom Brady just a game manager. And the answer appeared to be yes lol

 

I will say it’s also worth mentioning that Dak doesn’t have as much pressure to score touchdowns since Zeke scores half of them. That’s certainly part of the reason Dak has lower TD numbers...

but you also want to see him throw fewer than those 18 INTs against good teams, if he’s attempting far fewer passes than Cousins and Stafford as well. The latter two are definitely throwing 40-50 passes a game most games... and still throwing less picks against good teams than Dak, who often attempts only 30-35 passes per game.

Overall, Dak is great if he doesn’t have all the pressure, but once you start asking him to put the team on his back and take on more pressure, Dak folds and messes up more than Cousins and Stafford do. And to me that’s a better metric of whether someone is worth the top QB contract or not.

That didnt apply to any of your players at all this year lol. Green Bay is a top three team with a top two defense. Call me crazy but its okay to have a not great game against that.

Call me crazier, but this isnt even a discussion if it happened to a team not from Dallas.

Also, looking at record is lazy af and its hilarious that Randall is engaging considering he is a fan of a top defensive squad that won five games last year.
