I have no problem with them signing Foles. It was a fine move. What I'm objecting to is the idea that Ramsey needs to hold on and be patient for the good of the team, because the team was stupid enough to put themselves in this situation in the first place.

It’s not even a rare situation though. Lots of first round picks wait to get paid. The fifth year option is a thing that every first round draft pick should be prepared for going in because the fact is competitive teams are all cutting it close with the cap.

I don’t get the use in kicking and screaming to get that extra few million when the team that drafted you has all the leverage anyway, and you lose more millions by resisting it. I can see a franchise tag being mad disrespectful but the fifth year option is something that applies to every first round pick, even the really good ones, if they are on a team with other talent. That’s like winning the lottery and expecting not to be taxed like everyone else who wins the lottery.

 

The Jaguars are in a terrible spot because they mismanaged their championship window horribly, just like the Vikings did.
