Well yeah a non contender makes no sense but it's Oakland and Jon Gruden so all logic is thrown out the window

 

Also everyone is a contender until they're eliminated

 

I probably should have clarified that a team whom is ready to win should absolutely do it. The Colts are the team that makes the most sense for it though. Maybe even the Packers.

 

To use a different example, the Pistons traded the house to get Blake Griffin in the NBA. Was it a good move? Probably not. Are they a legit contender? No. Did they need to fill seats in their brand new Little Caesar’s Arena? Yes.

 

My scorching bold prediction right now is the Nets or the Pistons are gonna represent the East in the Finals because everyone else will melt down

That said I would actually love it if NYJ trades #3 for a bunch of picks since we don't have any after that until #68 and uses one of them for AB

 

I agree with Dustin. Every year there is a team that "comes out of nowhere" and competes at a high level.

If you make the playoffs, you're a contender 99.9% of the time.

Hardly anyone had the Chiefs as anything higher than a 4 seed and they damn near won the AFC

The Cowboys and Bears were majorly written off and made their way into the playoffs as real threats

 

I'm not sure you guys realize how bad the Raiders are

 

It won't happen but god can you imagine

 

Oh yeah they appear really bad and I'm not saying trading for AB instantly makes them good

But so much can happen in a season, the Chiefs can suffer a major injury, the Chargers can melt down, the Raiders can nail their picks and all of a sudden it's not outlandish for them to compete

 

Dolphins were 1-15 and then went 11-5 the next season to keep the Patriots out of the playoffs.

Anything can happen.

 

I don't think the Bears were written off at all, I know a lot of people that thought the Bears were for real when they got Mack. Shit, once they aquired Mack I had a funny feeling they would win the division.

 

I bet the shareholders would be happy if the Raiders landed AB before moving to Vegas. They need a star attraction.

IMO thats the only reason the Raiders make sense. With Grudens comments about how this is going to be a slow rebuild, landing AB doesnt make sense.

 

they were clearly tanking in 2007 and then got an actual QB who was an MVP candidate in 2008 in Pennington

lets not act like thats normal

 

But I do agree that the NFL is the most unpredictable sport in terms of who is a contender. You've got like 1-2 sure things every year and the rest is up for grabs

 

I didn't say that specific example was normal, I'm saying that it's possible and generally things like that happen for at least one team every year.

 

What about the Eagles in the playoffs the year the won the Super Bowl, and the Cowboys this past season? The Rams as soon as McVay came in?
