Wife and I just bought a house in Connecticut and our mortgage is around $6000 a month. If she didn't make more than double me I would've strongly vetoed it because I was poor as hell growing up and still have the mentality to hold onto every dollar

Yeah it's a scary number but her parents paid all of the down payment and she makes double that on her own. I still wake up anxious.

Oh wow people don't usually know where it is but thank you! Love New Haven. I'm shocked more people don't visit the area. We have probably my favorite airbnb market.

Yeah. We're not struggling at all but I legitimately wake up anxious and couldn't sleep my first week here. Felt like I signed my life away.

Can't say I blame you, my man. Hopefully you have some yard or something with that? Living in crowded Seattle (well...the outskirts), we have a 2800 sq ft house on a 4500 sq ft lot....

So a good sized home but literally no yard to speak of and neighbors essentially built on top of you...it stinks.

We're getting out of here and going back to Idaho where the same cost gets you a larger home on an acre or two...some breathing space would be great.

Our mortgage is going up from $1700 on our current house to $1900 in the new one and it's making me nervous lol

But i'll be saving that in gas alone pretty much every month so it'll even out

Seattle is gorgeous. Not sure I could do big city life though. That's a really nice sized house. We're 3,500 square feet on a little less than 2 acres. So our yard is nice, which is good because we're trying for kids. (Kids I will abandon if they become Patriots fans due to the region)

Saving time commuting alone is worth it. More time to spend with your family.

See I used to think that having a lot of land would be really nice, but ever since becoming a homeowner it made me realize just how much I haaaaaaaaaate doing yard work, I lived in a townhouse growing up so I never had to do it, but I can't imagine having to take care of an acre of land. Give me just enough of a back yard for the dogs to run around and that's all I need

So in Idaho, a lot of the houses they are building on acreage are really just rolling hills around the house so that a) no one can ever built next to or around you and b) you don't really need to maintain since its up in the high desert region and there just simply isn't a ton to maintain.

It just allows you to have your own freedom/space without Jim Dickhead and his family of 9 building five feet away from your front door.

I went to school with Jim Dickhead, thought he preferred James Dickhead now?

That's precisely why we are leaving. We want to have more space for our kids and obviously having them grow up in a smaller community is appeasing in a multitude of ways. If I was single or just married (no kids) I could live in the PNW forever....but from a family aspect, it's just not feasible.

Unless you are a big wig at one of the tech giants here in the area, it's next to impossible to live in the highly desirable areas with fantastic schools and all of that. So it makes sense to go somewhere we can get all of that and then we can just fly up and visit the area if we ever truly miss it.

Is there a guy in the NFL that looks more like his name than Rex Burkhead? Because I don't think there is.
