  1. Does anyone think players on bad teams demanding trades and teams giving in are hurting the game?

If your players have attitude problems and are getting into fights during a losing streak, I just don’t understand why an owner wouldn’t evaluate / judge the coaches based on that.

It’s clear that good coaches know how to keep good players happy. We’ve pissed off 2 of our recent first round picks already and had two brawls that resulted in players getting ejected recently. It’s not just Ramsey. Our whole locker room is frustrated and getting fed up with feeling powerless in mismanaged games, cause of that egotistical oaf Marrone calling overly conservative plays and never adjusting.

I hope dearly Shad Khan is the type to hold his coaches accountable for the behavior & morale of their players cause it IS their job to keep morale high, to keep emotions under control, to make sure the players feel like they are trusted and used to the best of their abilities. You can’t sit here and act like inner conflict and turmoil within the team is all on a player-by-player basis, and doesn’t fall on the team’s failure to establish respectable leadership.

I do not think that as a whole, no. It hurts the fan bases of specific teams (NYG, OAK, MIA, JAX, etc), but it’s probably good for the game to have good players landing on good teams and to have these storylines to talk about week in and week out.

Nope, I think the CBA removing agency from a player's career is hurting the game and creating this situation. Gotta love that a first-round pick is handcuffed to a team for up to 8 years.

Imagine being drafted and told you're gonna live in Buffalo and you're stuck there for potentially the entirety of your prime lol. That blows. Rookie deals should be shorter, the franchise tag should die a painful death.

I agree with almost all of this, but if Shad Khan shouldn't be holding coaches accountable, that's Tommy C's job. If Khan has to be the one to do it that means everyone should be fired. Owners should do nothing but sign the checks in my mind.

The whole point is to add parity to the league. Of course Jacksonville fucking Florida isn’t gonna keep ANY good players ever if they don’t have the leverage to make power moves like that. It sure is fun watching Steelers, Patriots and Colts fans talk about “it makes the good teams more exciting though!!!’n”

I'm sorry, but Jacksonville should be able to retain their talent without a clause that forces someone to stay or hold out. The Franchise Tag is absolutely garbage. Ramsey would be just fine staying in Jacksonville if it wasn't for factors a-z, none of which have to do with being in florida.

    See: the NBA

I don’t give a shit who talks about how the NBA handles contracts better or whatever, that league has no parity and 25-28 of those teams per year are useless to watch. You can’t just give players free reign to pick teams and expect the competition to have any integrity.

The NBA was dominated by Cleveland Ohio for years. Bad markets can retain good players if they're well run operations with talent and coaching people want to play with/for. Especially when the money is equal across all teams.

Like, fine if you're not for shorter rookie contracts or whatever, but I'm absolutely 100% stuck on the opinion that the franchise tag is inherently bad. I'm not trying to be an argumentative jerk about it.

It becomes a vicious cycle though. A team that is perceived as defunct is not going to attract any of the coaches or players who could turn the team around so they stay bad. It’s not just a one season thing, make better decisions for a little while and suddenly talent wants to play for you again. At least when a team drafts and homegrows talent they should have a chance to benefit from it or else it’s like starting over every couple years.

But teams do have a chance to benefit from it. 5 years isn't enough time to benefit from a first-round pick? Do you absolutely need the ability to add an additional 3 years on top of that without the player even wanting to be there? How is that good for anyone involved?

I agree with both of these things and hope the NFL navigates it well and finds a good middle ground. (They won’t.) I selfishly don’t like watching a completely player-driven market like the NBA as a fan of a specific team, and also there are aspects of the current CBA like the franchise tag that really stink and reward bad management, hurt the players, and really leave no one happy

  21. MidDave

Won't stfu about Drake Maye Supporter

Especially now that teams aren't even operating in good faith with the tag. Now, they're tagging players just to trade them continuing to remove their agency from their own career decisions.

I think concerns about the NBA = NFL are a little overblown. A KD going to the Warriors really can't happen in the NFL because A) There are so many more players on the field who impact the game B) Scheme is so much more important in football than basketball and C) Injuries are a lot more prevalent.

I know the Patriots are basically the Warriors, so if anything the current system isn't helping prevent this problem anyway, and I just don't see giving players more freedom brings us any closer to the Lebron orbit or whatever.

Well I’m more so arguing against players wanting out mid contract. If the contract expires and that player won’t accept any offers, yeah at that point you had 5-6 years to make them happy and you didn’t. And they fullfilled their contract obligation fair and square. That’s different.

But damn if you got Ramsey asking for a trade in the BEGINNING of year 4 that just doesn’t even give us a chance to rebuild from a bad quarterback and a former roster that was loaded with injury prone players & bad free agents.

As far as Championships go, the NBA wasn't a league of parity before players started demanding trades and stuff.
