While I don’t think Tomlin would be an upgrade for a lot of winning / playoff teams (more like a lateral move), he would do great somewhere like the Jets / Browns / Titans / Niners / Raiders where there is a recent losing culture. I think he’d be great to get a team going in the right direction.

Which coach isn't like that? Other than belichek you can name maybe 5?

I don’t think any steeler fan would argue that he doesn’t have some faults. But at worst I think he’s still a fringe top 10 coach, personally I’d rate him higher

I've always said Tomlin isn't like very top tier but idk who you replace him with

Tomlin will stay ultimately. He needs a new DC for sure, and theres an argument for a new OC after the season too. Give him that round of coordinators and if they fail, then its on him and he goes.

I like Colbert overall...but the fact we spent so many draft picks on DB and we're now starting two DB's we traded for and another we signed in FA says that we probably need some change there too long-term. If we hadnt extended Ben this off-season, we'd be in a really strong place to hit a reset on a few bad deals (Moncrief, Vance, etc). But we're now basically the team we are through 2020, and after that we see how things fall.

Im glad Mason Rudolph gets a chance on a pretty solid team whose expectations are now super low.

I also think Tomlin is worth more to the Steelers than to anyone else (similar to how Garrett is worth more to the cowboys than to any other team) because of the internal knowledge he brings. That could be said for any long tenured coach though.

Yeah there is also the possibility that maybe Tomlin didn’t want the long term extension

Didn't they say bens elbow was bothering him for awhile before that game? Maybe he just didn't want to be coaching without a good qb in place

Yeah, Bill's obviously #1 and then theres basically a tier with Peyton/Reid/Carroll/Tomlin/Harbuagh where they are all the "who do you replace them with" while having at least one glaring weakness (time management, game planning, player discipline, etc).

And there's also guys like a McVay or a Lynn who are probably in that tier, but need to prove it for as long as the others have.

Beyond that...its a lot of guys who have a good year then a real bad year and fan bases dont feel as loyal

  11. No. They'll go 8-8 and you will like it.

  15. If the Steelers give up another 30 points this week, you have to fire Butler, no? Not sure who you replace him with, but it has to be done.

Yeah, they'll almost certainly be in that 15-20 pick range. Getting into the top 10 with so many god awful teams would be hard.

I could see the Ravens being in on this. Jimmy Smith is a free agent after this season (16.25M cap hit for 2019) and they get at least an additional 7M in cap space if they cut Brandon Carr. They'll have 65 million in cap space after Ronnie Stanley's 5th year option, but also will need to decide on big contracts for multiple current players (Pierce, Judon, Onwausor + extend Marlon Humphrey).

Edit: not in for two 1sts

That's the thing. It's Bill and then some grouping of like Pete, Tomlin, Harbaugh, McVay, Reid etc...there is no clear cut #2 coach.

    there is one way out

I'm still on the Tomlin train, but I've already uncoupled the Butler and Finchner cars.

This is probably the worst talent pool Tomlin has had at the offensive skill position since he started. It'll be interesting to see what he makes out of it. But we'll see. I'm not ready to jump ship yet.

Also, I'm ready to ride with Mason Rudolph this season, and I'm actually looking forward to it.

But someone on the radio this morning said that we'll look back on the 2018 draft and wonder why Rudolph was taken in the 3rd while Mayfield was taken in the first, and I fully disagree with that.

    The rivalry is back on

IMO it’s definitely McVay until proven otherwise

that's exactly what I'm saying, there would probably be a bidding war for tomlin that would give him a gruden type deal or something (if he ever did leave)

so Gase is definitely going to be one and done right?

    Jags 5-0*** Prestigious

I feel like the Jags really don’t need to rush this decision either way. Like. We do have the exclusive rights to Jalen Ramsey for the next 2 years and we can still franchise tag him after that.

Would that piss him off? Yeah, but I think the only reason no one has offered two first round picks is because they worry about Ramsey’s attitude / being a team player. So honestly if he were to sulk and not play his hardest for us it’d only hurt his value.

Like literally just don’t trade him lol. Don’t respond to the request. We’ll probably go 5-11 or some shit, not get the offer the Jags are looking for... and have a perfectly good excuse to can Marrone / Coughlin. Then maybe his attitude might turn around if we bring in somebody good.
