And then the next week we trounced the Dolphins with two ridiculous bombs to Allen Robinson

    The rivalry is back on

The Colts got the picks that became Darius Leonard, Kemoko Turay, and Rock Ya-Sin by being slightly worse than the Jets. Or framed differently, if the Jets sucked a little bit more in a down year, they’d have 3 more chances to have hit on key players with high picks

There’s a ton of objective value in losing a lot to be a bad team

My point is we didn’t tank. A new coach came in and completely changed everything. Good QB play came from the guy we had before and a low(ish) QB draft pick.

I would rather place my bets on both a good coach and trying to get the next franchise QB at the same time without restricting the other.

Kemoko Turay does terrible things to me in my Madden 19 franchise.

no one ever said tanking was the ONLY way to assemble a good roster or get a QB. But whatever the Dolphins were doing for literally the last 15-20 years was clearly not working. They are now trying something different.

It also might not work, but at least they are giving themsleves a chances. At least there is a longterm plan in place.

Bruh, you do you ats imho

Astros are comparable in a different sport.. break the team down to nothing and then build it back up. Soon enough you’ll have plenty of studs hopefully, as long as the front office is good/smart. That’s the big key here.

The most important part about tanking is acknowledging you are in no place to take risks. Like what were the Browns thinking taking Justin Gilbert and Johnny Manziel? I know there are no "sure things" but at least avoid the two biggest question marks, damn.

I will concede that they are actively trying, no doubt there. I commend them for that. I am just not sold on it being an effective strategy is all.

I absolutely show respect. I use my tight end to block when I play Turay.

A tight end, Michael...BLOCKING. The horror.

I liked LSU so much before you started putting "eaux" in so many words that will never need them outside of "Geaux"

Of course not. This is the first season the Browns have gone into with actual hope and aspirations for a winning season. I think that, for as long as Baker is on his rookie contract for, they don't have to think about tearing down and rebuilding.

plus I'll just move to DMs and then phone and then your home address and then whatever the prison mail system is like in central Texas, probably not great, and then parole, and then back to prison.

It’s not 3 more chances. It’s a sliiiiiiight increase in the chances you already have. I legitimately think a smart team can get just as good players with picks 12, 44, and like 80 as they could with 10, 42, 76 or whatever. If they stick to their draft board / monitor great deals on falling prospects, and don’t panic when their main target was taken.

In those instances where you need a scarce position like tackle or a QB, and you might miss the best one, it’s a perfectly justified reason to trade up and teams do it all the time. Yes there are cases where that position is scarce and vital and that 4-5-6 picks difference REALLY matters. But again I’d rather trade up than full out tank and piss off the good players in their primes.

But in the case of Rock Ya-Sin or whatever a CB class usually has several promising second round talents who could all pan out or bust. So it’s not like it’s worth it to lose your current talent / team morale over a few draft picks... generally, if you don’t tank and just take the next guy down on your draft board when Ya-Sin is taken... the chances are not shabby at all the next guy down might actually be better. (JJ Watt fell to pick 11 and he was better than every player above him period. Russell Wilson was not the top QB on ANYONES draft board.)

Yes Darius Leonard is a superstar but clearly nobody knew that beforehand, he could’ve been a Darron Lee instead so you just don’t know whether those 5 draft slots are going to make the difference you think they will make. You just don’t know if the players you would target if you had more options, are really better than the players you would select if those players were taken. The potential is there, yes, but you really only increase your chances of picking better players so much.

It still ultimately comes down to, what decisions your GM makes with the talent pool that is available. The Ravens got a franchise QB at pick 32. Patriots killed it at pick 32 this past draft.

I agree with @Randall Mentzos especially since it's so damn easy to move up and get your guy; it really wasn't THAT expensive if the Jets REALLY wanted Darius Leonard.

funny enough Reshad Jones is out this week so Minkah is going to be playing safety the whole game most likely lol

    The rivalry is back on

I agree in principle, especially past the top 10 or so in the draft. In this case it is literally 3 more chances because they traded #6 + 3 seconds for #3, and those are the 3 players they took

If you ever read Randall's paragraphs you'll get what I mean haha

whitenblue says Colts got Leonard over the Jets by being bad, Randall countered that they got him by intelligently identifying his talent and Jets could've done the same if they really wanted to by trading as little as a late pick

I did forget about the trade up for Darnold though
