I don’t feel like it would even be hard to find someone good who wants to coach the Panthers. If you’re even competent you’ll win enough games with that roster to have job security for a few years. Replacing Riviera would not be hard. The hard part is replacing Cam... which is not an uncommon problem around the league and not a reason to BLOW UP the team.

They could actually be one of the best rosters to raise and develop a new QB as it is. Why ruin that? They have more options of who to draft because they could literally baby that QB and make it easy for him.

I considered all these names, especially Short, but didn’t mention them due to age (Short, McCoy) or being a bit up and down (Bradberry, Reid). You would know better than me about those last two though.

Moron had a solid rookie season last year. I think it’s worth keeping him around on that alone. Little may be an unknown, but they took him in the second round and they considered taking him in the first round. I think there’s potential. He isn’t starting because he’s been dealing with a concussion though.

I agree with pretty much everything else you’ve said though. I do think they are one of the many teams that is too content with mediocrity when they need to pull the trigger and make some big changes. That starts with moving on from Cam and Rivera.

Gonna be very sad if Cam is washed/retired soon. Been one of my favorite players to watch for a little while

  5. And not every position has to be some young stud. It’s ok to have some older players. What’s not ok is your QB missing wide open receivers every drive and your coach not know how to execute anything. This isn’t a roster problem. It’s QB and coach. Yeah, those can be hard to replace but that doesn’t mean blow up the entire roster.

If I see the team heading towards mediocrity, that scares me. Are you getting more from Bradberry or McCoy or Reid than you have been? No? Are you competing? No? Move on

  7. But they aren’t the reason we aren’t competing. Why get rid of them if they aren’t the problem?

Teams that I think need/could need a new QB as early as 2020:

    Bucs
    Dolphins
    Bengals
    Colts
    Titans
    Raiders

Dark horse team that could look to draft a QB in 2020:

    Bears

That still takes time though. Is McCoy gonna be there in 2-3 years or could you get more from him now by trading him

Bucs and Raiders? Come on. let's not pretend like Winston isnt 100000000 percent a Raider if both teams move on from their respective QBs

Tanking in the nfl just seems tough to me unless you have a incredibly solid O-Line/D-Line and completely lack skill players, if you are in the position to tank you usually need to address 5-10 different spots.

Doesn't mean you can't do it, but it isn't the no brainer that it is in the NBA

If I’m the Panthers I’m drafting a QB this year, signing a good T whatever it costs, and then drafting safeties and defensive tackles in the mid rounds. That addresses almost everything @CarpetElf has pointed out without tanking and blowing up the team.

Especially in a QB class with several intriguing options, where you could trade into even the lower top 10 and still come away with a promising guy. Hell, if Cam is this toasted, they don’t even need to tank, they’ll pick 8th or 9th as it is

  14. He’s more valuable playing for us for 2-3 more years than some 4th round pick we’d get for him.

It’s ok to have older players. Hell, if we had freaking Case Keenum I think we’d be 2-0. We don’t need to blow it up. We were right there against the Rams. Right there against the Bucs. Despite extremely poor QB play and poor coaching. We were still close to winning despite those two things because the roster is good.

It’s definitely leverage in your coaching search too. Having a solid roster already, and you might get to pick “your guy” at QB.

    Pick 8 with Cam
    OR
Pick 1 and an additional haul without Cam

If Tubs looks like he did during WK1 for more than 8 games this season, Bears need to move on ASAP

Idk I’m thinking the Titans will sign Winston in FA while the Bucs sign Mariota

This is the hell we deserve

One hundred percent. You already are hurting for talent and then you lose too much depth to the point where it takes years to replace.

I rooted for the Jags 2011-2016, trust me, a rebuild THAT deep is not a good situation for any team or anyone in that office.

I'm not saying dont have older players. I just dont think McCoy is going to push you over or anything like that.

But that's not what we did. I'm literally saying do what the Dolphins are doing, not what the Bengals are doing because that's what leads to what the Jags did.

  23. The Bengals hired an offensive coach and Andy Dalton looked better than he ever has on the road against Seattle.

When did I say keep Cam? I’m saying replace him haha. Honestly in his case this doesn’t apply for two reasons: 1) no one is trading for him 2) shutting him down cause he can’t throw isn’t even tanking that’s just reality

I’m for just playing out the season and going from there. At worst you fire Rivera, move on from Cam and get a high draft pick. This team always starts slow and figures it out around October. That in itself is a problem and why I think they should just get a new coaching staff regardless. They always seem to find a way to put a few wins together to save their jobs, though...
