not really sure how they are driving him away by playing him in multiple roles. Again, something they did last year and something that they DRAFTED him to do. but hey whatever floats your boat

again, he was horrific on Sunday. Not the best look to come out and start bitching literally days after you got burned up and down the field.

Yeah it is beyond me why the coaching staff isn’t trying to play him to his strengths. You have a very promising outside corner in Howard and then a budding slot corner in Fitzpatrick in the beginning of a rebuild. Why are you trying to force square peg into a circle? You want versatility, or better safety/linebacker play? Use one of the plethora of 2020 draft picks you’ve acquired thus far on those positions.

He got burned because they were playing him at multiple positions in that game instead of focusing on playing him where he’s strongest. This isn’t that difficult to grasp

In theory this is what I think but in practice I’d be equally upset with Jalen Ramsey if he got disgruntled and asked for a trade.... that said we better make him a lucrative ass offer.

he played multiple positions last year too and he played great at every one of them. This is not something new.

He did not play 1 position last year. Why do people think that?

The team giving up and trading their best player is though.

Maybe he knows it’s very possible he won’t earn the payday he deserves if they try to act like he’s not just a corner. Maybe he wants to build a legacy doing what he’s best at, rather than being used as a chess piece just so the team can try to give him LB / S money to play a higher premium role. Like what Houston did with Clowney.

I could also see a player simply getting overwhelmed by too many responsibilities. Playing corner is so technical that I bet it’s hard for him to stay polished when he’s having to study and account for so many other things.

Take arms, it'll all blow over Prestigious

The DRAFTED him to do argument is so dumb since the player has no agency in where they play as a rookie.

I applaud your faith in a Dolphins FO that hasn't accomplished anything in a decade tho.

    1) Xavien Howard is their best player.
    2) they got a ridiculous trade offer which is why they traded Tunsil. Lets not act like they traded the guy for a late round pick and a scrub.

you don't draft a guy to play slot corner at 11th overall. Pretty obvious I Thought, but here we are.

I don’t blame @xbrokendownx for his perspective as a fan tbh

Let’s not pretend it doesn’t suck to have a young player you were getting excited about decide they don’t want to play for your team. For ANY reason.

    totally fine

    then he can go.

...which is what I said to begin with?

Not sure why I should be forced to root for players that dont want to play for my team?

Players, especially good players, don't like playing for shitty teams. Especially teams that are playing shitty intentionally. To me the usage feels like part of the equation, but if the team he was playing for had been on the other side of a 59-10 game, he wouldn't be complaining. Understandably so.

I would never get pissy with a player for wanting to leave a tanking/shitty team. I'm a Lions fan. As much as I dislike Eric Ebron, can I blame him for being happier when Andrew Luck was throwing him 15 touchdowns than when he was a Detroit Lion? The Tigers, my absolute favorite professional sports team, are tanking right now. I can't get too righteous about Nick Castellanos talking about how much happier he is on the Cubs, how he actually feels like trying, and how he's hit since the trade (1.007 OPS and 14 HR with the Cubs through 39 games vs .790 OPS and 11 HR in 100 games with the Tigers). Of fucking course that's the case, it fucking sucks to be a professional athlete expected to give 100% every single day for a team that is doing literally the exact opposite.

If a player doesn't want to play for a team that is creating an intentionally shitty environment, there's no reason to get self-righteous as a fan about them stating their intentions/desires to leave, because they can't "just leave", not unless they want to Antonio Brown the situation. So if they're taking the professional route towards finding a better situation for them, more power to them.

I was just adding some possible narratives, not saying you should be behind him

With more teams using 11 personnel now, there’s even more importance to having a good spot corner in today’s NFL, which is even more crazy that they won’t just focus on developing him there.

    Lets Go. Prestigious

he has every right to not want to be there just as I have every right to shit on him for it. I have never claimed to be "the most righteous fan" or whatever it is youre talking about

by the way, Eric Ebron left as a free agent so I have no idea how those situations are comparable

That’s on the Dolphins FO then for not doing their proper due diligence, not Minkah

No but let's also not pretend like it's not the organizations incompetence causing this. We all agree it would suck, just for some reason one of us feels the need to give the benefit of the doubt to the organization that hasnt done much to earn it.

    Lets Go. Prestigious

no, its not! lol this is what i am saying

its up to them to draft football players that they think can help them win games. He played ALL OVER last year too and was good at it.

you do know that Minkah did not play only slot CB at Alabama right?

  22. Nathan

I brought up Ebron as an example of a player who left for a better situation and had been vocal about it: not as a 1-1 comparison.

I guess I just don’t get the attitude that, as a fan, I should only root for a player if they are happily playing for my team. If he doesn’t get traded are you gonna boo against him next week? Would you have been one of the Colts fans booing Andrew Luck this preseason?

the reason they have to tank in the first place is because of past regimes putting them in this position with all the bad contracts and mediocre seasons.

They are trying something different which is what I am excited for.

  24. xbrokendownx

    Lets Go. Prestigious

look I get it. You all shit on the Dolphins because its an easy target. And rightfully so. They are a joke right now. But at least they are TRYING to do something different. The Browns did something different and it looks like they have a bright future now.

I hate when people tell me "how to fan". You guys react you want and I will react how I want. I never said that me reacting this way is 100% the right thing, either.

I like what they're doing from an organization perspective. Blow it up rebuild > slow and steady. But from a player perspective i absolutely get why one wouldnt want to be a part of it.
