That missed trip on orlov seems pretty big now but doesn’t really matter with how flat the caps were for so long.
okay. over the last month or so i've really started to get into hockey and understand why it's so exciting and has such a dedicated fan base and for some reason the ending of this game really clicked for me how exciting and awesome hockey is. all i could keep comparing it to was how kind of boring the end of a football game (usually) is and how here all it takes is one shot to completely change the game.
You can still play really well and lose, shit happens all the time. Cooper got really conservative at the end both games, it made it easier for the caps to almost come back.
Without being super sappy or whatever, people do have different perspectives when it comes to who outplayed/who. Some people will be very concrete and look at the outcome and say the score will tell you. Some people like to pick the game apart and say things like “if it weren’t for a particular 5-minute stretch here the game would have been much different.” I really think it changes from game to game, because I wouldn’t look at this game in particular and say that the overall outcome is the definitive story of who the better team was. I think that these last 2 games has come down to goalie play. Tampa has been outshot, but Vasy has outplayed Holtby and allowed Tampa to edge out a team that has found more opportunities, but has not been able to capitalize (there’s a pun in here) on as many of their chances.
Yeah you can play well and still lose but if you lose three straight you arent by far the better team haha. Thats just ridiculous.
Caps had double the shots on goal that Tampa had last game, but lost 4-2 because Tampa's goalie was solid while Holtby was not.
Yeah, I couldn’t definitively say I think the Caps are the better team. I barely watched the regular season matchups, so I wasn’t aware of how these teams would stack up in this series. It’s been (apart from game 2) very competitive.
