Love the Fred Warner pick , meh on the rest of the 49ers draft. Pettis is a good fit, but idk about the value nor do I think he's better than Miller. Should've taken Sweat over Moore. Don't know why they're taking a developmental prospect in the third round.
Ronnie Harrison at pick 93 lmao. I wanted Reid and the Jags were like "stfu for a second, we'll get a safety, just let me get that last freak athlete receiver too." My "alternate scenario" of cutting Gipson and Dareus to make space for our DEs/Ramsey is actually legit about to happen. We just drafted two excellent players at those positions at just the right time - those two players are declining and more inconsistent than they used to be, and we have one year left before the big ceiling scraping contracts kick in. Perfect 1 year period to sit Harrison and Bryan and coach them up to take Gipson/Dareus' place.
Eh. We keep getting players that shouldn't have fallen that far at all haha. This is now the third epic steal (Myles Jack, Telvin Smith), and the first two had no issues and became franchise pieces. I'm not worried. I also think its nuts Ngakoue was round 3 but that's hindsight I guess? Why werent any of us talking about a dude who had 28 sacks in 26 games in the 2016 draft lol? Undersized sure, I didnt think he could play the run either, but that is CRAZY production.
Yeah I still like Harrison. But it does always concern me when players that get a lot of media attention drop randomly. I’m guessing teams think he’s limited to situational downs. But like you said, he won’t have any pressure to perform day one. He’s obviously talented so it could turn into a great pick
I mean hes definirely more SS than FS, you draft Reid if you want the coverage specialist, but I think Harrison's short range route recognition, tackle reaction time, ability to position his body against TE on contested passes etc are all rock solid. Hips aren't that fluid but he anticipates receiver cuts and that helps compensate. He covers as well as youd want a SS to cover, very decisive about how he handles anything in front of him. Just don't want him running backwards at this point. Church can play FS so I wouldn't mind sliding him over
I didn’t know much about Rashaan Gaulden when the pick was made but I’ve read up a little bit and I think I like it. Hurney says he will play safety but he has experience at every position in the defensive backfield. He isn’t the fastest guy out there but he’s a very physical player and seems to always be near to ball. Hard hitter and forced a handful of fumbles. Like Donte Jackson, he plays with a lot of confidence and cockiness. It sounds dumb but that is something we needed on defense. I’m excited to see how he develops.
And the trade back was beautiful. We didn’t have a 4th so getting the extra pick was nice. 1st pick in the 4th and 10 pick in the 5th is solid return when it appears our board was thin.
