Waddell talking about not being in a rush to trade anyone else. We could end up rolling into the season as is outside of some depth signings.

~3rd Leafs fan on here checking in.

I grew up on Long Island as an Isles fan, but became a Leafs fan in the early 90's when Potvin was in the Q. I was getting perversely into goalies, and my creepy Canadian neighbor got weird satellite channels that showed minors hockey.

I'm a Leafs fan who still loves the Isles and has them as my 2nd team. So all I know is sadness and disappointment.

Earlier, I got a few texts all at once, "congratulating" me. I will admit I had very little to do with the signing, but I'll accept the acclaim. But my Leafs fandom just braces me for the worst. Best case, a Cup. With that unlikely to happen to TO, I just hope the other option doesn't happen - Tavares and Matthews going knee on knee in a non-contact practice.

It's gonna take at least 6-8 months to get used to seeing that name and that number in that font against that particular shade of blue and not have it be mind-fuckingly crazy to me.

 

the "going home" narrative is going to be so overblown considering the amount of money JT is getting within a year of signing his contract lol

I don’t hate that. Gaudreau-Monahan-Neal would be pretty nasty.

 

I think the trade worked out well for both sides. Berglund should be a useful bottom 6 guy and possibly flippable to a contender if needed. Sobotka is a salary dump, but in the meantime adding those two makes the Sabres bottom 6 considerably better than the dumpster fire they have been rolling out for years. They have the cap space to be able to pay those guys even though they make more than you'd want in your bottom 6.

Thompson and the #1 are the keys to the package obviously. If Thompson can develop he has abilities not many of the Sabres previous prospects have. The #1 I am hoping can be used with like, Minnesota in a package to peel Zucker or Nino away if the rumors of them, Coyle and Dumba being available.

Definitely was better than I thought simply because of this. There was 100% something going on in the locker room and ROR found himself on the wrong side of it. I don't know if it was just your normal dynamic and he burned out from always butting heads with the other factions or what, but the dude was absolutely run down. I wish him the best in STL, I honestly hope it works out to be a good hockey trade for both sides.

 

well, apparently Maroon's 3 biggest suitors were NJ, CGY, and STL

the latter 2 added forwards so I wonder if that means by default he comes back to NJ

 

Why does Minnesota want to trade them?

 

Apparently, I was at the same party as Noel Acciari this weekend. So that's kinda cool.

I highly doubt they'd trade Dumba though, they'll trade one of Coyle, Zucker, or Nino first

Agree. Tage has a cannon, needs to add some meat on his bones but he showed flashes last year when he had to be forced up to the big club with all the injuries. honestly Berglund and sobotka aren't worthless, their contracts were just not needed given we had younger guys who could do them and probably better. Other then being slow, Berglund always got a bad rep here. He can go on some serious hot streaks, but when he disappears he disappears. Sobotka just lost all of his edge/feistiness after her returned from the KHL. If he goes back to that style, you'll love him.

 

I think it's a combination of cap concerns and trying to churn the roster a bit to try to take the next step. Dumba and Zucker are RFA. Nino is locked in longer term at 5.25 million, Coyle at 3.2 million.

 

hell the Devils just hired Fletcher who was with Minnesota for a long time

maybe that gives us the inside track for a trade there. I would love to get Nino to pair with his fellow countryman Nico

 

Isles should just overpay CDH to avoid him going to the rangers

 

Last time Minnesota was in this they traded scandella Reilly and some other guys without giving up the big cheese, they have a new gm now tho
