Term is great for Philly. Even if he heavily declines, moving a 1/2yr, 7m contract shouldn't be too difficult if they really need to get out of it. There will be basement dwelling teams who could absorb that pretty easily with a little sweetener.

I’ve convinced myself Tavares is going to Toronto but hoping he picks Boston. I’d be thrilled with Panarin too just as long as they don’t lose DeBrusk. He’s the only forward other than Marchand/Bergeron/Pastrnak that did anything in the playoffs. Kid seems to live for the big moments.

 

Re Tavares, presumably. Or maybe this is about Komarov. Who can say.

I'm in two minds about this. The prospect of adding another legitimate elite #1C to the team is beautiful, plus with the Leafs being so widely hated I'll relish in how much it'll piss nearly everyone off (I'm very petty). But I also worry about how much he'll get paid, how much it has the potential to fuck up our cap for the future, and how it'll impact our ability to find and/or retain a #1D, which we obviously need way more than a(nother) #1C. Because that's the sticking point here: Tavares is a luxury, not a necessity. And I know if Tavares signs elsewhere, I'll be initially disappointed, but I'll also breathe a sigh of relief knowing our core won't be disrupted and the team can continue to grow at its own pace.

Unless he signs in Boston. Then I'm just fucking done with everything.

 

I’m honestly in the exact same boat but for Boston aside from #1 D since McAvoy has that potential once Chara is done. If he signs with the Sharks, cool, but I don’t want him on the Leafs. As long as the Bruins can unload Backes and keep DeBrusk I’m content.

 

How would that work with Tavares and Matthews? Matthews is a Center right? Would one of them change positions or just bounce back and forth between 1C and 2C?

 

Is Nylander available if Leafs get JT?

 

Probably the latter. Babs rolled our top 3 lines pretty evenly, so that wouldn't likely change with this. But Matthews has also taken some shifts on the wing, whether it was occasionally alongside Nylander, or at that farce of a World Championship crap a couple years back when he played on McDavid's wing, so it wouldn't surprise me to see them line up together every so often.

Probably, but also maybe not immediately. We have some decent D prospects (albeit no blue chippers... maybe Liljegren depending on how liberally you use the term), and I could see mgmt waiting to see how Lily, Dermott, Sandin etc turn out before making any significant moves. If they turn out, we could have a fairly nice looking D corps (though still lacking a true #1). And Nylander wouldn't return a #1 or potential #1 anyway. Basically there's no urgency to address the D quite yet (unless an offer comes along we couldn't refuse), but if it's still a horse's ass ~3 years down the line, then yeah Willy's gone.

Would Faulk + solid prospect be enticing?

 

I've never been a huge fan of Faulk, admittedly. At least not at the cost of Nylander. We need a steadier defensive presence in our top 4 and Faulk ain't exactly that.

I'd have probably done it for Hanifin though. He's got his warts defensively too, but he's also still a kid.

 

Yeah I think Hanifin for Nylander would be a good deal. But I’m happy with Dougie.
