I err more towards the wombat here. I get the "it's their paycheck, why not do the best for it?" cold mentality. But sports just can't be compared to a normal business on a 1:1 level. Sports invites and thrives on irrational behavior.

The Tavares scene at the Coliseum was simply gross. Like Marsupial said, I think booing a former player is fine, within reason. It's fun and funny, and the player will be fully expecting it and can easily tune it out. It's theater. But swinging to the opposite end of the spectrum, and not only dismissing your franchise icon's impact for almost a decade, but fully embracing a vibe of hatred... no.

But Richter is fully right that the Isles fanbase is coming from a position of power, and they are so not used to that over the past, uh - many decades. Success this season has poisoned their mentality.

Also @marsupial jones - regarding the "Tavares Night" you mentioned. I would usually think something like that is corny. But that Isles game and the week leading up to it would have been emotionally draining for Tavares no matter how the game was played. The fact that the Leafs shat the bed so violently that game HAD to have just been an absolute nightmare even for the stoic Tavares.

So that home game was like going to Disney World, or drinking a little extra of your favorite stuff - an artificial pick me up. Sometimes, that's what the doctor ordered. (Metaphorically - if your doctor suggests any of those things, report them.)

do we think Karlsson is staying in San Jose? i know he couldn't sign an extension until after the deadline, but it seems like most of the world is split that if he was staying he would have signed an extension by now.

wonder if he just wants to test the market to see what it's like it since he's never been able to do that before (i think).

if I am Shero, I would offer Karlsson and/or Duchene whatever they realistically wanted

gotta start using this abundance of cap space. Overpaying one guy isn't gonna cripple the team

 

the only thing I know about Doug Wilson is he is very aggressive on getting his star free agents.

It was him battling Tampa for Stamkos and also for Tavares. The fact he has the advantage right now for Karlsson is coool.
