I believe that talk was after he got that last concussion. Apparently the things changed afterwards and per the CBJ beat writer, he is seeking a 3-4 year deal that has a combination of Stanley Cup chances and a place he feels comfortable moving his kids for schooling.

man there really aren't many guys I would be OK with signing to "big" contracts

certainly would much rather overpay on AAV on a 2-3 year deal than offer a 6-7 year contract to a lot of these guys

as an example, I would pay Stastny whatever he reasonably wanted on a 2 year deal if he were willing to take that

this is my line of thinking too. ironically i read an article recently that talked about this and most players reject it because they want the security of a 5+ year deal. if they sign 2 years and let's say, get injured or play like crap, their value plummets and they never get that money back. a lot of "anonymous sources / players" said that they don't really care much if they end up getting traded during a longer deal (depending on their age) they just want to make sure they get as much money as possible so they sign the longer deals. i had never even really thought of it that way, but it makes sense.

teams would like to do 2-3 year deals but the players won't go for it (most of 'em).

teams are gonna over pay for Moore as a depth defenseman while some team will get demelo on a 2 way league minimum deal and that's why we have a lockout soon

He shouldn't even come to us if he isn't in to that

Good example of this is Scott Hartnell. Had a great year on a line with Jagr and Giroux. Was rewarded a 5 year deal. Was garbage after the deal. Got traded to the Blue Jackets and then the Preds. Still on that deal.

yeah its definitely tough. I wish teams would stand their ground and stop giving out insane contracts ala Lucic, Backes, etc that they look to get out of in 2 years

as for the Devils, they have to give extensions to Hall, Hischier, Butcher, Vatanen, and Bratt all in 2 years or less so while they are swimming in cap space at the moment, they need to be careful of what they do in regards to the long term outlook

I lowkey want it to go like last mlb offseason where teams were holding out like crazy and getting players for steals of deals

but also this sport sucks so people deserve the money gms are dumb enough to pay

I'm always stoked when someone signs a big ticket. Rather them get it than the owner.

Long term contracts for any player above the age of 30 (could probably go down to 28) is inherently problematic for getting a team to win, no argument.

Then I remember these are really talented humans who should play for whatever they feel that they're worth.

As an Isles fan, this Tavares sweepstakes is already getting old and it’s only day 2 haha. Still think it’s only really between the Isles and Leafs.
