They would only be penalized for the first two years where he made $2 mil. over his cap hit. I don't think they care if it's all from signing bonuses or not. It was made to punish teams for signing those 12+ year contracts before the last CBA expired, so it's less of a problem for Buffalo because there's fewer years where they got a cap benefit.

So this means he helped generate 30 shots while on the ice while the opponent was only able to get 3 shots while he was on the ice, correct?

Was he with the same teammates / defender for all of his shifts or no and is that why only he’s called out in this tweet?

 

it doesn't necessarily mean he was directly involved in the shot attempts for/against, but he was on the ice for them

As an example, This is why people that say "Karlsson isn't good in his own end" annoy me. While that may be true (I don't think it is), if Karlsson is in the O-zone 60% of the time he is on the ice, does it really matter? The ice is always tilted.

I didn’t know people thought about that regarding Karlsson. Since he’s referred to as one of the top 5 (or maybe top) defenseman wouldn’t that mean he’s in his own end and doing good things? If he’s in the offensive zone he would mostly be doing offensive work, right? (Making sure the puck stays in the zone, protecting it from the opponent, etc.)

I wanted to hype up for Burns for Norris this season but he starts something like 60% of his shifts in the offensive zone so never mind.

It’s going to Giordano or Reily for sure.

 

COL at NSH

You can get a breakdown of who he was on ice with when he had shots for/against. See that he's mostly on with Subban 5v5 when they're generating shots. You can also use with or without you (WOWY) stats to see how his teammates performed with/without him on the ice. From what I see he generally makes those around him significantly better. His numbers are almost identical to Subban and Ellis yet he's making one third to half as much as those guys.
