punishing players is beyond pointless. Just look at how players respond to fines and suspensions for bad hits.

Punish organizations and owners...consistently too.. It would disincentive them from giving out contracts that are built to be broken. They tried punishing Lou and the devils with the initial Kovalchuk deal then backed off on some of the punishment...and of course the league didn't punish other teams like with the Hossa deal.

Punishing the players feels nice to us as fans but it's not really the core issue.

I love Ryan Hartman. He just scored a goal without trying to score a goal.

Legitimately though, he already makes a nice chunk of change. Moulson comes off the books after this year. Pominville can too. Sobotka and Bogosian and Scandella after next season. They can absolutely do it.

i can't believe they won another again in OT by one goal (obviously they win by one if it goes to OT, but more or less can't believe they won by one and that they again won in OT).

tied for longest winning streak in Buffalo history!

  11. I talked myself into being ok with it at the time, but I really don’t understand why we traded Skinner.

listening to Buffalo radio and some hockey podcasts the generally consensus i've heard has been "change of scenery" and a mix of "he was maxed out here (Carolina) for what he could do". not sure how true that is though or how many would agree.

  13. Yeah that’s pretty much it. But he’s kinda what we’re missing right now.

Yeah turns out when you take a guy who scored 30 with an anchor at center and put him with Jack Eichel instead good things happen. Canes blew that one.

Who was the best center Skinner played with in Carolina? One of the Staal bros?

I want to say he played in a line with Eric for a bit, but it wasn't the good version of Eric Staal, it was the "is he washed?" version.

I've seen some articles but it's been awhile. I'm recalling seeing like...Derek Ryan, Elias Lindholm, Victor Rask and Staal

    Edit: found something.

It's code for "the new coach didn't like him" because reasons. Trading him made sense from the standpoint that he's a UFA and he might have wanted to leave, but Carolina treated him like a problem child and got a shit return as a result.

They tried him with Eric in his rookie season but "it didn't work" for 2-3 games and they never went back to it. And when they did, it was only for a game or two. Played him with Jordan for a year and they produced but they broke the line up because they had a bad plus/minus and Muller played him on the third line to "balance the lineup" and give him favorable matchups. Peters did the same thing but with slightly better linemates. There was also a period where they played him at center for whatever reason and that failed miserably. Basically, they've dicked around with him for his entire career.

Yeah I'm gonna be honest after 25 games, it seems to me that they really just fucked up with him year after year.

listening to the Broad Street Hockey podcast for the first time and i'm surprised at how calm and level headed the conversation is. i expected, sadly because it's Philly and what the media shows of their fans, nothing but hotheaded screaming and yelling - especially since i'm listening to the episode right after their GM was fired - but it's been an enjoyable listen.
