The cost of hockey: Buying into the dream

A year’s tuition to PEAC is $53,000. The Okanagan Hockey Academy charges $35,000 a year — more if you’re from out of province. Tuition for students living at the Canadian International Hockey Academy is $39,900 a year.

That does not include mandatory fees such as equipment ($600 to $800), school uniform ($350-$500), textbooks ($300) and $1,000 for such things as orientation week, SAT prep courses and exams.

The median family income in Canada, according to Stats Canada, was $76,550 in 2013.

Exactly and it's gonna plummet the game in a decade because viewership and attendance will inevitably go down. It'll probably be competing with youth for baseball, who is taking a lot of the right steps. Hockey isn't doing anything to quell the issues they have from the bottom up and it's a problem.

There is only one acceptable scenario for how this season pans out, and it's with Ottawa bottoming out and "winning" the Hughes draft

I don't think hockey is in line for the demographic crisis like football will deal with -- it's been an expensive sport forever, there are just more opportunities now for the gullible rich to spend even more money.

I was gonna say Gritty is automatically disqualified due to technically not being a person, but then they've also got Trump there so what do I know.

 

This leads to be a bigger question - does this mean Gritty thinks of himself as a person, a human entity, or was it more of a “I should be on the cover, duh” type of thing. We recently learned he has a belly button. Not sure if those are specific to humans (ala a person) so maybe he is a person...?
