interesting. that would be a very strange thing to do and i wonder how much teams are focusing on the future and the impending expansion draft at this time. theoretically, couldn't Nashville just sign some random goalie to keep Saros protected from being picked?

If it works the same way as the last expansion draft, and I believe Bettman already said it would follow the same procedures, then teams will have two options for their protection list. Seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender, or, eight skaters (forwards or defensemen) and one goaltender. If any players has a no-move clause, then they must be protected. If the draft happens in 2020, then the Preds must protect Rinne in that one goaltender slot, leaving Saros exposed. I'm hoping they know something we don't. Or they are really banking on a 2021 expansion draft.
