What is currently an undeniable fact yet for some reason being debated - teams have won by doing the exact opposite

I’m saying that it’s harder to do that though, because you have to juggle and manage far more of the roster. Just because it happened doesn’t mean it’s not unusual.

If you have a really good quarterback your team can stay successful even if you have a lot of roster turnover. Not the case the other way around.

I also personally think the "Rams are doomed" take is a little overblown. They've got Donald, Cooks, Gurley, Havenstein, Woods, Barron, and NRC locked up through 2021. Talib and Suh are pretty much understood to be eventual cuts. Peters is literally the only piece they have left to re-sign that isn't on a rookie deal for the next couple seasons.

That's okay, it can be harder lol.

There's only so many times I can bring up the fact that the highest paid QBs don't win Super Bowls. At this point there's not really anything left to say haha

Surprised at #6 because the pick after it was Darius Leonard.

Brees, Roethlisberger, & Rodgers all compete in the playoffs regularly and all have at least one ring. While all 3 QB haven’t gone all the way to the SB in awhile... it hasn’t been long enough to say “that strategy doesn’t work anymore”. Newton went recently, and Wilson isn’t a good example cause he JUST got paid right after the whole Seahawk team fell apart.

Also I think “highest paid” isn’t an accurate metric. Stafford is good but he ain’t THAT good and same with Flacco, Carr & Eli haha, we can both agree they are earning too much and don’t really belong in the “elite” / “competitive no matter what” category. Wentz and Goff look more promising than all those guys.

Aside from that, you can’t just assume there will even be a good rookie QB for your team every fourth year, let alone that you’ll be able to get that QB or pick the right ones.

Ideally yes, that would be the way to win. In practice though, it’d be too easy to wreck the Eagles/Rams whole path toward success if they tried to replace Goff/Wentz instead of resigning, but their replacement was a bust who dragged the team down.

I just think teams need to be opportunistic. If you have the draft capital to go get a LEGIT QB, go get him. If you have a better QB than 70% of teams, do what you can to keep him, knowing that 70% of teams KEEP struggling to find another good QB and the odds are high you’d struggle too.

However, If your QB is not good... but you just got Ramsey Jack and Yannick in one draft? Well damn become a defensive team that wins with discipline and physical ball control, because that makes the most sense in that scenario.

Availability / talent pool should dictate team building strategy more than anything, and deliberately trying to replace your QB every 4 years just sounds like so much could go wrong.

3rd and 4th in the division in the seasons after he left (and Kubiak being fired) says otherwise.

I think how you get your QB doesn't matter. Whether its draft and play right away, whether its draft and wait, whether its free agency. But the rest of your team matters quite a bit. The more you rely on free agents, the more money that gets stacked on future years, the harder it is to make up for a mistake. For example, air-balling a 1st round QB who was supposed to be the answer...and being unable to make up for that because you have 95% of your cap space tied up in the free agents you signed for the SB run the year before.

Im real curious what the Rams do in 2020, they're at ~$100 million in cap space off just 9 players. And that doesnt include Cupp, Goff, etc. If they do the 5th year option on Goff, they have $55mil in cap space off just 10 players. And none of those guys are moveable/cuttable to free cap space.

    Nope. Supporter

Kubiak wasn't fired, he stepped down due to health reasons. Also, the point of it all is to win the SB so even if they were bad the following 2 years, I think they would still say it was well worth it.

And the team was still largely the same in 2016-2017 after Manning left, but the level of QB play (and Vance Joseph being a terrible coach) is what dragged/is dragging them down

  18. Panthers usually have a turdy secondary.

Jackson, Bradberry, Reid is promising. And Mike Adams has actually been really solid against the run this year. I’m hoping Gaulden still gets snaps though. He looked decent against the Bengals.

I just meant the HOU 2nd rounder. I agree though. He is really really bad. That kind of draws to the Deshaun trade again. Could've had McGlinchey at #4.
