Mahomes in week 5 is the next big test. He is shockingly good, in a more sustainable way than Watson last year.

Mahomes’ style of play is sustainable and so is Jimmy G’s. I back their hype because if you come in knowing how to run a west coast / spread, you already have answers for all different kinds of defensive looks.

Watson, in comparison, is gonna need to figure out how to be great when he is forced to play a patient game. He wants it all, all the time, and while I wouldn’t call him easy to defend, I would say that gameplanning against him right now is straightforward. There are certain defensive looks that will totally stump him at this point in his career if the execution is there.

You have to “set defenders up” with tedious patterns and recognizable decoy plays, or they won’t bite on any of your bait on your best plays. For example, throwing drag routes until they call cover 2 to stop them... and then using that against them and throwing post corners / deep digs / floods, fucking with the safeties, once they get comfortable coming back to that play call. Watson hasn’t shown that kind of long-game, chess match patience yet. He’ll just throw the deep post and dig right away when they are sitting and waiting for it.

I wasn't saying hes bad just explaining why I think his learning curve is longer and why I strongly felt like Watson would slump but don't necessarily think Jimmy G will.

Mahomes will probably come down to Earth and have normal games but its hard to imagine him playing poorly right now. He looks so comfortable in that scheme and he has so many playmakers to set him up.

Best thing about the NFL is, its a more level playing field once you get to the pros. A QB who may not have been taught those high level concepts in college, can still sometimes be a quick learner and figure it out. Clemson isn't a very good school for preparing QB for the pros, hence why Watson fell to pick 12 despite his college dominance & talent, but that doesn't mean he can't still learn. And then you'd have that PLUS his raw talent.

We won't know which of this era's QB are truly the best for another few years.

look, the Jets and Darnold were the best thing since sliced bread after week 1 and Miami went in there and controlled that game the entire way.

the Titans were favored in week 1. Mariota played more than half of that game and was dog shit/got knocked out. They actually played better with Gabbert

all the national guys had us as a bottom 3 team this year, and just like I said, there is no way thats happening. I get we won't get any respect but all Clay had to say was "hey the Dolphins aren't as bad as I thought!" and no one would be coming at him.
