I really have no idea how it's coming off like that at all.

Bortles won two playoff games and was awarded a new contract.
Carr, Cousins, and Stafford have never won a playoff game and were awarded (at that time) the largest QB contracts in the NFL.

I don't see how that's a pivot. It's the same point. I'd take Bortles because he's cheaper and puts the team first.

Yeah, if Bradford can get that money I'm confident Bortles can find that money.

    Nope. Supporter

It's really simple, based on talent, Stafford 10/10, but Bortles at his contract is more valuable right now considering you wouldn't have the type of team around him if he was making Stafford money. Now if Stafford would take Bortles money on that team then hell yeah

Same reason i'm glad that neither the Jets or Broncos signed Cousins, they'll be better off for it in the long run.

Bortles didn't take a team friendly contract out of the goodness of his heart. He hadn't played near well enough to demand much more than he ended up getting. Like, if he was better he could have and almost assuredly would have made more money, whether it was in Jacksonville or some other QB-hungry team.

Now, I wouldn't be shocked if there was some article out there talking about how he's will to do a team friendly contract, etc... but I take that with a huge grain of salt because he is aware he can't demand much in the first place.

unless you pay another position $17-$25 and then they stink ;-)
it's all about what they do with that cap space / ability. if the Jets offer Dante Fowler 4 years / $85M next year then they're in the same position (or worse) than signing an expensive QB

    And THAT'S what I'm saying

You can pay your QB or you can pay your other players, you can replace your QB or replace your other players, it doesn't really matter what route you go unless your GM sucks at evaluating talent

SO much of the NFL is happenstance too

I don't like having this take on most things in the sport, but I do think it applies here more than anywhere: if it were this easy to figure out we'd all be GMs

    Psssst

(The cap also grows over time causing contracts to get bigger, and a lot of the QBs that don't have a top 10 deal did have a top 10 deal at the time they signed it, and have had success while on the same deal even if it wasn't the same year)

Yeah I know I was looking back at their contracts relative to the year they won. That's still very telling.

You may be on to something though, because if the league catches on we'll have every team with a QB playing like Blake Bortles for little money

It'll just take one team to buck the trend of overpaying guys. Tbh I could see Philly being that team.

Nah, it won't, it's gonna continue because QBs make as much money for the team as they cost

Really this is all the NFL's fault for going overly offense-happy
