Green Bay the city, is small. but Packers fans are fucking everywhere and they're a huge draw on tv and they have one of the 5 most recognizable and talented players in the league leading their team (as much as i hate to admit this, facts are facts). you could put GB against pretty much anybody and they'd still draw huge numbers. most media numbers have them in the top 3 for every category.

also for this game / season, it's a rivalry game against Chicago (the longest rivalry in NFL history!!!!!!!!!! which they only like to tell us 9,000 times a game while GB wins the last 15 by an average of 35 points) starting their 100th season. i get why they kick off Sunday night there. (although no one gives a shit about this stuff except die hard Packers fans)

BUT. the Patriots are also a huge draw with a hugely recognizable name (or two) against an up and coming probable superstar QB in a rematch of a great game from last year. so, i'm kind of surprised they went with GB vs CHI too

 

I have like 4 co-workers at work who are Packers fans and that is probably the largest amount besides the Raiders/49ers fans here and it is insane.

I know this has nothing to do with the main topic but I wanted to mention it.

 

Packers are one of those fan bases that are national. Packers, Cowboys, Raiders, Steelers. Pats, Dolphins, Giants are probably close to that too

i think i remember reading that each state and some overseas countries have "Packer bars" because there are so many fans across the globe. really gross to think about.

 

Has anyone here ever won sports tickets? I have a question regarding that

 

the fanbases I know at my work are Cowboys, Raiders, 49ers, Packers and then a few Texans fans so yeah all typical.

 

I won twins tickets from a local radio station, I liked a post on Facebook they made or whatever and they choose me randomly I guess.

Oh I know, but, its not two marquee teams. Hell, in Chicago's case, is there an MLB game around the same time?

Though, actually, looking at the Week 1 matchups, there's not a lot of great matchups in terms of majors stars or contenders. GB/CHI is in about the same realm as DAL/CAR, which would also be a pretty weak marquee game.

edit: I guess last year was DAL/NYG, which is kind of in the same realm. Everyone expected NY to be mediocre, etc.

We actually have multiple Packers bars in Denver lol

 

Saw one in my wife's hometown...which is basically equi-distanct between Chicago, GB, Minnesota, etc. Even under the theory that past success makes you nationally relevant, they should all meet that criteria. Kind of hilarious really.

Though they watch collegiate wrestling over the NFL there...

 

I just looked at the steelers bar website and most of the steelers bars here are all in LA which makes sense,

 

Worked at a very popular Steelers bar in South Florida that isn’t listed so I’m sure there are an absolute ton of them
