Shula is a bad hire, but Gettleman did not undervalue OL.

Turner and Norwell are two pro-bowl guards that made our interior line really good. He signed Oher who gave us a couple good seasons before injuries took over. Daryl Williams looks to be solid at RT and Taylor Moton looks promising as well. He didn’t draft an OT in the first rounds because we were never in a position in the draft where it made sense. We never had cap space to spend big on a tackle (which wasn’t his fault).

The one time he got desperate and overspent for an OT everyone crushed him.

 

I'm bullish on gettleman not caring about OL, I think it was more about realizing value of where to take guys. There's no way he can ignore them on the Giants, just no way at all. Reese got fired for ignoring them so he knows 1. Find elis successor 2. Fix the entire OL are top priorities. They also didn't hire all the Panthers guys, they hired their special teams coach and Shula. From what I've read Shula will be more of a glorified QB coach and won't call plays, it'll be all shurmur. That doesn't mean it's a bad hire but it was shurmurs decision, not his fault zimmer shoved a middle finger in his face and changed his mind last second.

 

Shula not calling plays is a good move. He wasn’t bad at play design, he just didn’t know how to implement his scheme into games or certain situations. He would overcorrect mistakes by going from one extreme to the other (example: people would be mad we didn’t run it enough one week, the next week we ran it every play).

As long as Eli is out there blowing chunks it won’t matter who OC is or who is calling plays.

I don't see why they not to be completely honest. It's not like he'd call the plays or anything. It does suck he left, but I honestly think they were waiting to promote Duce.

Meanwhile Lions will overpay for a TE to replace Ebron who will do nothing (extending Ebron's legacy)

Fuck that. Cut Ivory and Hurns, sign Jimmy Graham and Sammy Watkins. Also a CB3 is possible. But OL would be my biggest target. But historically we've (Parnell) done (Parnell) a bad (Parnell) job (Parnell) at free agent (Parnell) OL.

 

Much rather draft a CB3 if we are replacing Colvin. Bouye already costs too much to add another free agent CB (plus having two FA CB is just generally not great imo because chemistry in the secondary is a big deal)... and Ramsey will set the new price for the CB market soon. Need a cheap mid round contract for our slot CB, if not resigning Colvin team-friendly.

Also Jimmy Graham is gonna be overpriced for what he offers at this age. Again, draftable solution. Especially if we are the ones to go for Goedert which honestly I would LOVE. Take some pressure off ARob and give us another possession target.

Watkins would be fine I guess but we gotta resign ARob and WR is a position we may need to stay cheap on to afford our defense. Especially if we had Goedert (or other TE) and Cole, wouldn’t need Watkins.... or Hurns or Lee for that matter.
