Well that was all amazing

 

I mean, we've made the playoffs 4 of the past 5 seasons. We're doing something right.

 

Eric Ebron is terrible though. You guys didn't miss out on much.

 

I've started to appreciate Ron Rivera more recently. Despite a terrible OC, disastrous front office, decent at best OL, no WRs, an at times sporadic Cam, old DEs, no safeties.....he keeps winning.

 

Rivera is probably the most underrated coach in the league.

Honestly, no, it would just give us time to see what hes worth. If he wasnt good enough you can always move on and do exactly what we just did a year later, and sign shitty Lee / Moncrief level receivers next off-season. (Except theres also a chance the FA class isnt this scarce, and better bargains can be had due to more available WR.)

If he was as good as before, you don't sign all these tight ends, you don't sign Lee / Moncrief level receivers to 10M contracts. You let your bums walk and just keep drafting receivers to find a cheap complementary target that you don't have to pay for awhile. You draft a guys to compete with Cole/Dede this year and next, so that you can pay your alpha dog WR his 14 mill while 4 guys competing for WR2 and WR3 all cost less than that combined. Even at the rate we pay our defense, we still can afford one key receiver if we go young and cheap for the rest of that position group - the numbers would match what we currently did, paying 3 dudes decent money.

But that way you can actually USE your two year window with a real passing threat, while you also cut bait on players that failed to stand out and plan for the future. We did neither of those things.

 

Jacoby is a better QB than Bortles

 

I love Jacoby but also that is not correct.

Moncrief has played in one more game than Hurns. Hurns has more catches, more yards, more touchdowns, and a higher y/c.

Hurns worst two seasons went for more yards than all but one of Moncrief's seasons.

 

That's a nice receiving corps in 2013

23-24 million

Option 2:
Lee - 10 million
Moncrief - 10 million
Cole, Dede, bench players - < 3 million

23 million, plus a high drafted receiver ANYWAY becuase Lee and Moncrief suck.

And then this WR corps is STILL not as good. And it either costs more, or If you let Moncrief go and don't replace him with another costly WR2 then it's just Lee, high drafted WR, Cole which is even worse.

We didn't save money we just spent it less sustainably on worse talent.
