I just don't like cities that are too much concrete and not enough green space and that's a HUGE problem I have with the Miami / Ft. Lauderdale area.

Jax is shit too, it has a lot of public parks which is cool but the city itself is just fuckin ugly and it's really only nice "nature" if you live very close to the river.

Florida in general doesn't have the best nature haha. Some of the best springs & beaches for swimming in the country, but that's about it.

I like areas with elevation changes (gives you more sweeping views of what's around you) and areas with a lot of variety in foilage. Like, Shenandoah National Park (I lived very close for awhile) has more varieties of trees than all of Europe and it's astounding, the variety.

Also you don't get autumn leaves here. No seasonal change. No deep green or purple trees in the summer time like some of the west coast. Just a pale green everywhere.

@Fucking Dustin in general I value these things because they are good for the soul. Sure anyone can travel to go see nature but that's what, a couple times a year? Why settle for that when there are COUNTLESS places in this country where you can just walk outside your front door and immediately fall in love with whats around you?

I can be in a total slump, and just go walking around a beautiful spot for 30 minutes or driving on some hilly country roads, and feel better. Ideally I like easy access to those sorts of things. I had that in Maryland for sure. The aesthetic of the area I'm spending my time in has a lot of impact on how I feel there. If it looks drab I feel drab.

Just to let you know you are not convincing me at all. None of this is convincing me that I have to live in it or that me not wanting to live in it is my "worst take ever". I can do all that plenty without living in an area with "good nature" because I can drive to places with those things outside of Dallas if I want to. It's not that big of a deal.

We were talking about how I think Florida is ugly haha. I'm not sure why it's being taken personal?

The other day, Matt said "hot take: most music is good" and someone else said "please leave" and I thought that was funny. That's the same kind of playful thing I meant by "this is literally your worst take ever". I'm not taking it seriously.

In fact that's probably a compliment that your takes are usually great and this silly topic is the most I ever tend to disagree with you haha.

I mean my take was actually serious though where as "hot take most music is good" is obviously playful

And also because of the aforementioned: I'm emotionally overwhelmed today and as a result am taking it personally

Well, I'm sorry. I should have phrased myself differently. "worst take ever" is very harsh if it's not clear that I'm joking.

I just personally don't think Florida even has the most beautiful beaches, nor beautiful cities / architecture, let alone anything else. And I personally highly appreciate a lot of things in nature that are missing from Florida. It's a big reason why moving back home to Jax got old so quickly, I don't like having to travel & take time off work to get my fix.

We are definitely fine to disagree about that haha, I wasn't trying to convince you. Just sharing my own strong opinions haha.

I mean I definitely don't wanna live in FL specifically hahaha but like...a big west coast city on the beach? Absolutely. I don't mind a situation where it's just architecture and palm trees and sand, it's not THAT bad to have to drive to see more varieties of nature. But also nature doesn't really heal me. I get what you're saying about being able to go out into nature and appreciate how beautiful everything is and get perspective, but on my end if I do that everything's still pretty fucked up and I don't really feel any better about it.

I get what you're saying. I'm picky about aesthetics I guess. I hate cookie cutter neighborhoods with all the trees razed down. Doesn't feel homey. Beaches themselves are great.

I'd live on the west coast too but that's because those beach areas actually do have access to cultural hotspots and scenic variety. In comparison Florida is like, the beaches are pretty but drive a quarter mile inland and it's bland as fuck, haha. You gotta drive 5 hours just to get somewhere that doesn't look SO Florida, there just isn't much variety. In a sense it almost feels like an Orwellian utopia.

I like urban stuff but it's gotta have charm. Colorful row homes, old statues & architecture, mature trees all over, historically vibrant arts districts with hundreds of attractions in walking distance from each other. Florida is just too spread out, too concrete and too corporate. Everything has this... store bought, company designed, fake feel to it. It's very plastic & monolithic. You drive, you park, you go to chain stores and restaurants. That's really the only lifestyle that Florida seems inviting to haha.

    Nope. Supporter

So I’ve been to both Ft. Lauderdale and Jacksonville. It rained the entire time in Ft. Lauderdale and Jacksonville had pretty nice weather, and Ft. Lauderdale is still 19195948182859505044212469696969x better

Well for someone traveling or a tourist, yeah. But I'd rather gel my hair with glue daily than live in the Miami / Ft. Lauderdale area. I moved to Jax cause it's easy to live here. No chance in hell would I pay the cost or deal with the congestion to live in South Florida, considering how much better things you can get for that same sacrifice. Every city in the northeast would be a more enriching place to live than Ft. Lauderdale.

Also, you pretty much have to fly if you wanna take a legit non-Florida trip. It's a 10 hour drive to Atlanta, Charlotte, even further to New Orleans or to any mountains. I like being right by the state line whenever I get stir crazy.

Gase is probably gonna try to get Williams canned mid-season, can't see any other reason why all these stories are coming out. Which leads to what is probably true in that the jets probably forced Williams on him to make them look good with the "home run hire" type of deal

Seasons are overrated. Fall is cool but it doesn’t come out without the creeping promise of terrible depressing weather for four months

Edit: I guess this is technically the NFL thread so I should clarify I that I mean seasons of the calendar year, and not weeks 1-17

On the flip side though, those depressing months make spring and summer SO much more appreciated. & I love how fun activities & daily routines change with the seasons. Places with strong food culture will shift their cuisine to fit the season too.

I like snow here and there too. I wouldn’t want 4-5 months of consistent winter, the Midwest & New England are too damn cold... but places that have cold weeks and warm up in between are comfortable to me.

I like Asheville NC, Nashville, Baltimore MD kinda weather. Would probably like Denver’s weather & northern Cali weather too. I could put up with Pittsburgh / Ohio / NYC but I’d probably hate the winter, yeah haha.

I used to think I preferred hot places but honestly summer in FL is the same way. Super uncomfortable and depressing, I become a recluse, same thing I do when it’s really cold for too long haha.
