I wish they did but it's also a shame that some people think sack numbers alone are indicative of skill level. Like, there are stretches where Demarcus Lawrence got 0 or .5 sacks in 5+ games or something and I got people chirping that he's not as good anymore, etc...

Like, you have to look at the whole picture. Is he being double-teamed? Triple-teamed? How many pressures did he get? QB hits and hurries and TFL? Cmon...

Reggie is my best pass rusher of all time. You know why?

    1) He did it for TWO contending teams, not just one. He was on the Randall Cunningham Eagles and then the Brett Favre Packers. Changed schemes and defenses entirely mid-career, and was still a huge reason why BOTH teams were in the playoffs.

    2) Tony Boselli owned Bruce Smith every time we played the Bills back then. He never sacked or pressured Mark Brunell.

Since QB hits have been tracked JJ Watt's 2012-2015 seasons are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the league in QB hits

Well it's kind of obvious / goes without saying that a player on the all-time sacks list probably DID get double & triple teamed and probably had excellent "pressure" numbers as well.

Like, you can get pressures & double teams without getting sacks, but it doesn't work both ways, eventually teams pay attention if you're getting a lot of sacks. You can't get that many sacks without being consistent about generating pressure despite teams already double teaming you.

Going back to the draft and knowing what we know now, are you still happy with y'all getting him and us getting Tyron Smith?

I think Watt is more dominant on a historic level for his position, but factor in injuries and importance of position (and me being a homer) I think I'd still stick with Tyron.

Always do the right thing. Supporter

When Suh was a Lion he was the most dominant defensive player I’d ever watched consistently. His numbers don’t hold up super well but he was legitimately double or triple teamed or flagrantly held on nearly every play. His presence in his prime altered the entire game.

He’s not one of the greatest defensive players of all time, but he was unbelievable during most of his Lions tenure.

Oh, 100% agreed, I just meant some idiots I know who will point at sack total alone and determine that a player is shit for a season or something.

I'm definitely more happy with having Watt over Tyron Smith. I think both fit well for the franchises they ended up on.

I'll explain more in a minute, on a payroll crisis call

Most dominant Jags defensive players are on the team right now

Ramsey and Campbell are my #1 and #2 Jags defenders ever.

Followed by Big John Henderson and Kevin Hardy.

I think on AP I had like 70k posts but now I barely have 5,000 cause I really only post in the sports forum and 95% of it in this thread. My likes to post ratio sucks because I suck

Revis is an all time great at his position, but I wouldn't put him in a top 10 defensive player list.

The tough thing with Revis is he fell off a MASSIVE cliff and failed in quite a few different places

Succeeded in NYJ, failed in Tampa, succeeded in NE for one season, failed in NYJ part 2, failed in KC

If Ramsey continues on the path he’s on he’ll be at least as good if not better than Revis

He's off to a good start, but he'd have to keep it up for 5-10 more years at this level. That's extremely difficult.

Okay finally on a break so I can elaborate.

Houston needed a new face of the franchise with Andre Johnson wanting to go to our rivals and Arian Foster being outspokenly against McNair and the league in general, and having JJ Watt be one of the most dominant defensive players in history has helped give the Texans a face just in time to turn the city's attitude around and make the Texans a generally winning team with him on it (at the same time James Harden emerges on the Rockets and Altuve/Correa/Bregman on the Astros). It's a massive culture change to have a guy like Watt present. Whereas the Cowboys have always had a DEEP history as a team including many championships and guys like Staubach/Aikman/Deion/Emmitt and don't necessarily need a "face of the team" when they had Romo on it, so they could take the less flashy but extremely talented Tyron Smith to bolster that line and help continue that ethos. I think Tyron Smith on the Texans, while he would be great, would not help the team become what it has (ESPECIALLY since we already had a great LT in Duane Brown).

I’m fairly sure it would take about as long to get from my house to the Atlanta airport as it would to get from my house to Chattanooga, TN during a weekday rush hour
