Respect to Sean Taylor, RIP and all that... but I can't imagine putting him on any top 5 list in general.

 

I wasn't really considering current players. JJ Watt is top 5 by the time he retires for sure.

Can we just talk about how fucking weird Gronk is? What the hell was he even talking about yesterday. Every answer he had was answered like he was high on edibles.

 

There has never been and will never be a safety prospect that good. He was ridiculous. He was definitely playing like an all-timer when he was in the league. RIP.

Reggie White
Deion Sanders

I would add Joe Greene to that list and then the #5 spot could rotate out a handful of players like Lewis, Reed, and eventually Donald, Watt, etc...

 

He's so dumb. Kid needs to stop talking and just play, lol.

 

On a per-season basis, I absolutely would say Taylor could've been even better overall player than Lott, Reed, Rodney Harrison, Atwater, maybe even Woodson, Polamalu and Dawkins.

Reed was the best ballhawk but he sucked at tackling.

 

He might have been, but when talking all time lists, I can't put anyone on there for their potential. It's a super sad story of his death and maybe it's not fair, but I can't put a 3 or 4 year player on a list like that.

2. Deion Sanders
3. Reggie White
4. JJ Watt
5. Ray Lewis

Y'all sleeping on Greene. Dude is arguably as good as or better/influential as Lawrence Taylor.

 

If "sacks" was a stat during Dick Butkus career, we'd all see that he was clearly top 5 haha. They just logged those as tackles back then.

Sure, but it requires dominant players to play THAT well. You could also find a statement like that for most dominant players in general, too.

 

Yeah MJG was incredible and the only reason anyone's heard of UNT but idk if he'd be in my top 5

Definitely top 10 with Butkus, Deacon, others but it's hard for me to rate those older players right

 

Forgot about Deacon. He's pretty tight, too.

 

It's crazy how far ahead Bruce Allen & Reggie White are from everyone else in terms of sacks

200 & 198 sacks at #1 & #2 all time... and then the next guy has 160. Highest guy on the list we've watched in our lifetimes is Julius Peppers with 159.5

I almost put him in my top 5 but couldn't fully justify it

 

What a shame the league didn't start counting sacks until 1982. Lot of great careers being diminished by that stat not being recorded.

 

But it also has to be considered what players used to be allowed to do on defense
