Pittsburgh public transit is the absolute worst. It's 90% buses.

 

I will say that Philly introduced the "freedom pass" a little while back and you pay one flat rate and can travel as many times as you want for the day

that is something I like

 

The light rail and commuter rail system is excellent though. They have transit that extends to every neighboring state. You can be in Delaware or Jersey or past NYC or northeast MD and still have a rail line direct to the city of Philly.

 

Jacksonville tried to make a rail line but fucked up, bankrupted the project, but refuse to take the L so they have a train that runs like six blocks where no one actually needs to go

 

Yes you can take amtrak to wherever but who cares? I'm talking about the local transit. It's not very good.

 

I think in the case of LA people are afraid to ride the subway in an earthquake prone area. That's why I wouldn't haha.

 

Not just talking about amtrak. They have like commuter rails that go back and forth every day for much lower flat rates.

Idk I just feel like by comparison, Philly is way more accessible than the cities I've lived in

 

Denver's light rail offers day passes for a flat fee which is nice. It will eventually connect from Fort Collins down to Colorado Springs. My only gripe with it is that everything funnels into downtown Denver, which, if you're going there is great. But if you're not then it's kind of out of the way lol but I don't think it could have been set up any other way

 

It's so dumb lol.

people who live in San Marco / north Kings Ave area (which is like less than a half mile) who work downtown? They can just walk or bike across the Main St Bridge just as quickly as it takes wait for the monorail and then to go this weird diagonal route.

it doesn't serve the stadium to the east of this map, which would be the FIRST thing you'd think the city would consider with mass transit. When is the most traffic that you're trying to cut down? JAGS GAMES you idiots.

It also doesn't go to Riverside to the west or even to Brooklyn, which is the whole cultural center of the city. IT just stops in this weird commercial area in between downtown and Brooklyn, where, again, riding a bike down scenic Riverside Avenue is much better.

Also, the monorail vehicles are tiny so even if they had volume, they couldn't handle it. The technology is also so outdated & obsolete that they can't even update the damn thing:

They literally discussed that walking might be a more efficient use of the monorail tracks than the monorail. And then they came out with this desperate "we don't know what the fuck we are doing" quote:

I rode it the other day. It's useless as mass transit. No one lives near any of the stations, they're ALL in commercialized areas. It comes across much more like a "ride" at Universal Studios than a transit system.

 

It's not, people in LA just want to be dropped off right where they want to be. They're more afraid of buses than earthquakes.

 

The first and only time I was ever in Jacksonville i'll just never forget looking around and thinking "wow this place hasn't entered the 21st century"

European public transit is very clean & efficient from my experience.

NY subway is so outdated that it's almost not funny

 

I loved NYC subway personally. One of few cities I'd live without a car.
