I have a big empty spot on my desk and I need to put something there, but the typical office plant is all I can think of.

That had nothing to do with what I said haha. It's just harder to stay asleep for longer as you get older.

 

No i mean, I went to bed at 7pm and woke up at 7am. I slept 12 hours haha. Went to bed early AF AND woke up earlier than normal

 

usually I sleep from 2:30 AM to 9 AM, so yeah it has been harder to sleep longer than 7 hours. Thats true. That's why last night was weird.

Man, you ever have a reality check that just floors your ass and humbles the hell out of you?

I just met my boss' son and she had never mentioned anything other than a hearing problem that requires a hearing aid but it's clear from meeting him and shaking his hand that he has multiple extreme physical limitations that undoubtedly make it hard, basically near impossible, to have a normal life.

Shit, I need to get off my ass and learn to appreciate that I have a fully functioning body.

It takes very special people to handle that personally or help take care of someone who struggles with issues like that.

 

When I get depressed I watch documentaries of pollution issues & extreme poverty in India, and the way people have to live in the slums out there. And they still seem to take some solace in the simple pleasures in life, despite struggling 10,000 times more than I ever will. That is always real kick in the ass. You want happiness, you gotta be willing to work for it.

 

My car wouldn't start properly this morning because of the fucking cold.

 

So here's the thing: no

 

@Max_123 the Metro (subway) is your best way around the city. The stops arent as frequent as most subway systems though so expect to do some walking. Luckily DC isn't too hilly or anything like that, and most of the inner city is very scenic and pretty.

However, big pet peeve - Subways are cheap in every other city. You're gonna pay at least $5 one-way in DC, longer trips are like $7-$8

Even if you can deal with one of the top 3 worst traffic cities in the country, then you have to deal with a city that's intentionally set up to be confusing. It's not a grid at all. Bunch of roundabouts and diagonal roads and one-ways.

Historically they made DC so that if it was invaded by a foreign army, they could be quarantined inside the city and would get caught before they could escape. And it's totally believable when you drive there. The city will even confuse your GPS.

And then there's parking. DC is smaller than Baltimore but has 2.5x the amount of people living and working in the area. Street parking is hard as shit to find and there's also too few parking garages that all cost $10-$12 an hour.

So yeah take the Metro.

 

We're used to walking lol, the light rail in Denver, while nice, isn't built like a subway system either with that close of stops to where your actual destination is. But we can park at our Airbnb's place for free so we're just going to leave the car there and do public transportation the entire time. LMK besides the touristy stuff of going to the National Mall what else we should do. We're staying 2 blocks east of the Glenwood cemetery

 

Does anywhere have good public transit other than NYC?

...would you not say that Philadelphia has good transit? I've always felt like they do.

 

also SEATTLE will soon have great public transit. Their soudntransit rail is about to go all the way north to Everett and all the way south to Federal Way. And then from there they have the best bus system I've ever seen. Buses come every 5-8 minutes and an all day pass with unlimited transfers was $2.00. Good diverse variety of people rode the bus too, it wasn't like the east coast where white people are afraid to ride it

 

Chicago does. People shit on Los Angeles public transit all the time too but when I lived there I didn’t have a car and never complained about my commute, which was a morning bonding exercise for everyone else.
