I wouldn’t call 2017 “cheating” but I would call it blatantly biased refs only watching the Jags for penalties, and calling shit that shouldn’t be called

The Patriots didn’t get called for a single holding penalty the whole game

If you go a whole game without calling holding at least once on both teams, you clearly aren’t even looking hard enough

There were like 8 games in a row in 2017 where our opponents' offense weren't called for a single holding penalty. I believe the NFL average is just below 2 of those calls per game and we had 0 in half a season.

Total bullshit.

 

Hot take: holding should be called less because it happens on every play and barely gets whistled so like, fuck it, lets just scrap it and have fun.

 

I’m just still in shock that they called AJ Bouye for PI, when his technique on that play was exactly what you coach a CB to do to AVOID PI.

He got called PI because Brandin Cooks is small and couldn’t compete for body position on the sideline. All Bouye did was position himself and look for the ball. Didn’t even TOUCH Cooks with his hands. And Brady gets a 45 yard PI on third down which started their comeback

Don’t care how you spin it, the refs artificially changed the momentum of the game with MULTIPLE bad calls

 

Agreed, the couple Colts game where they consistently called holding (like the Cowboys game) absolutely sucked to watch from a gameplay perspective

 

It already does get called less on your team. No idea why you’re the one complaining lol

It is -5 days until the offseason and it is already a good offseason for the Colts

GOAT is back, o-line is not an issue and everyone is returning, the QB isn’t potentially done for his career, and the Colts haven’t gotten publicly humiliated by a coach yet

 

And you have to call it sometimes to keep the offensive line honest.

Sure you can’t call every incidental hold, but the flagrant ones should be called so that linemen don’t just start ONLY holding, instead of trying to keep their technique honest.

 

In my NFL the lineman would have to tackle a defensive lineman, sit on him, crack open a good book and read at least 3 chapters to get whistled. Oh, and the ball carrier would have to run past all this going on, stop, state into a microphone "thank you for illegally holding" and then move on.

 

Telvin Smith got grabbed and pulled to the sideline on the last play the Patriots ran too. They had a 3rd & 10 with enough time on the clock for us to score back... and converted it with a *running play* because of that shit. Don’t come up in here telling me “call holding less” lol.

 

They really need to institute "my team lost to the Patriots" group therapy sessions.

 

Yeah this is a bad take haha. Holding is a penalty for a reason. It’s easy to block someone if you can grab them. That would absolutely ruin football.

I would be over it if we straight up lost without any questions over whether the game was called fairly.

For example, I’m not salty about 2007, that was just a ridiculously good game by Brady and we straight up got outplayed

But in 2017, losing all the momentum after dominating the first 3 quarters in a crucial playoff game? Strictly because the refs, on 5-6 different occasions, showed that they don’t know how to do their fucking job? Yeah that blows and I will continue to be pissed about it

It wasn’t one bad call. I’ve revisited the game since and we got boned by the refs at LEAST 4 huge, game-changing times. PLUS the refs not flagging the Patriots ONCE all game. Shit was so unfair I have a hard time believing the refs just “made mistakes”.

 

Tennessee was the least flag team in football last year btw.

Jacksonville was the most hurt by penalties in terms of net yards.

A loss is a loss but I reserve the right to stay mad about it if awful officiating fucked up the game.

Our coaches failed to adapt, sure, I won’t deny that’s part of the narrative. But this was after the Pats were given 90 yards from two bad PI calls (this is why we stopped calling press-man, which was working well before those penalties) and after Myles Jack’s untouched TD got called “down”.
