My wife and I are hopefully planning on doing a big international trip in summer of 21 to either Western Europe or Australia to celebrate us both being done with school forever

School is also gonna force me to go abroad somewhere next spring. The options this year were Japan and South Africa so I’d imagine it’ll be similarly cool options next year

 

Only time I’ve seen a bat was at a nature preserve in southeastern BC, Canada (near the panhandle of Idaho.). It was furry and cute and sleeping. And SHY! We watched it for like 3 whole minutes and the moment I tried to take a picture it flew away.

We also saw these aggressively territorial birds. I don’t remember what they were called but the pamphlet declared them one of the most aggressive small birds in North America. They were viciously defending their nest from a hawk. Like 10 of them blitzing that thing in the air and pecking and clawing it and shit. Was NUTS.

It was a beautiful swamp/marshland with catwalks and mountains all around.

i hear ya. i feel bad when i go on vacation or don't visit the dogs like, every other fucking day. these dogs are spoiled rotten by my parents 24/7 and i feel bad not visiting them every day because they own my heart. my mom once sent me a picture showing them waiting at the top of the stairs around 5:15 (when i usually get there after work) and it just about broke my heart

dogs definitely know how to tell time, don't believe otherwise!

 

Bats scare the shit out of me lol they fly too erratically. There’s a bike path behind my apartment complex that I’d never stay on past dark or else they’re EVERYWHERE

Also my wife's cousin is in school to become a pharmacist, she has to go on 4 different rotations this year and this month she was in Australia for it and her parents joined her out there for like 2 weeks for a vacation I h8 them

Honolulu isn’t a top place to visit in Hawaii imo. The rest of that whole island is better. Let alone Maui is even better than Oahu and Kauai / Big Island have different kinds of epic nature. Definitely consider renting a car & possibly booking flights to different islands to actually go see shit. Zipcar would be ideal.

parking alone was insane. there were signs that were like, "LOW PRICE! $29.99 AN HOUR PARKING!" and the majority of the roads are 1 way, super narrow and completely sign-less. the van to the hotel / airport was a terrifying experience lol. "that guy is supposed to stop for me. he knows there should be a stop sign there, we all know that. he's trying to be dangerous on purpose. he doesn't fool me, hang on folks!"

 

Yeah if i wasnt being driven everywhere Houston would be much more stressful haha.

 

The only cool thing about Honolulu if you’re not rich is, the skateboarders there are amazing. Otherwise you better pay a lot for fine dining and hotels. North shore and west shore have much more fun beaches too.

 

You’re still talking about Honolulu though. That’s the part of Hawaii that Americans have ruined the MOST lol

None of the rest of the island is like that. Rent a car in Honolulu so you can drive out of Honolulu

You'd LOVE the Big Island then. Kona side is cool and chill, Hilo side is rainy. And since it stopped erupting, the Volcano National Park is there to explore. And unlike Waikiki, parking and driving is super easy.

 

We're going to a wedding in Philly so we're going to fly out a week early and do the thing

Well Hawaii is the kind of place I would drop everything to just explore one of the most beautiful places on earth, and immerse the culture for awhile. But even so it’d be a short term move. Hence why it only works if you take money out of the equation lol.

 

Im flying out for my first wedding next year. To Houston actually haha.

My mother decided to get married while im on the road lol

 

i remember taking a picture of the beaches and mountains and a woman past me and asked if i wanted her to take a picture of me in front of the mountains and i said "no thanks" and she looked PISSED. she then asked why i wouldn't want a photo of myself in front of a mountain in Hawaii to remember the trip by and said, "i'm taking this photo to remember the trip by. i'm gonna remember it's me that took it." and she scowled, mumbled under her breath and shook her head as if i just didn't understand.
