I agree, teams should pressure the other team's QB

I guess being pressured on near record level amounts gives you enough practice to get better at it :/

My thought is just that sample size of time that Watson/other highly pressured QBs WASN'T pressured is too small to show a true passer rating haha

That and that there are other factors as well (for example how certain teams like to pressure impacts how well a QB can do against said pressure. Sending 8 at Brady will probably have a different result than sending 3 where the LT gets beat)

  10. I honestly have no idea what to expect with Cam's shoulder. The worst part is, neither does the team.

I think they will be somewhat aggressive this offseason looking for a backup plan while also monitoring Cam closely. If they fall in love with a draft prospect, it wouldn't shock me if they took a QB at any point in the draft (including the first). But I think a more realistic option in someone like Teddy Bridgewater or Tyrod Taylor. I'm not really a fan of either guy, but if Cam fizzles out and we have to rely on one of them it'll set us up to take a QB in 2020.

I'm hoping they send Cam to whatever stem cell treatment place Luck went to for treatment.

Well really what the chart shows is that blitzing mobile QBs is a huge risk and can backfire. In general you want to play containment. So that instead of chasing them around, and letting them dictate the play with the improv skills they are known for, you cage them in and force them to make a good decision while uncomfortable in the pocket. Kinda like how you can tell a young pet dog to “sit” and “stay” inside the house, but once they get outside they’re impossible to predict or catch.

The problem with blitzing mobile QBs is, when they scramble outside the pocket, that gets your defense way off-script as well. They suddenly have less leverage because they are purely reacting to the QB at that point and can’t just trust the scheme. All the coverage angles they were coached are now useless as well because the QB is now passing from a side angle, instead of from the middle of the field, so a normally good angle by the CB becomes suddenly vulnerable to completions.

While sometimes it is good to pressure Watson becuase his O Line is terrible, he can also make you pay if he escapes and there’s no one left to get in his passing lanes while he’s on the run. Arguably that’s where he does his most damage.

Same with Dak Prescott, it’s actually even MORE true for him because his footwork is so bad when he has to stay in the pocket. QB like that tend to like a little chaos because it lets them play on instinct and spot an open man with their eyes, rather than being super structured and having to anticipate the play. They can ad lib and find a passing lane more easily when the defense commits defenders to the backfield.

Notice that Bortles, Josh Allen, and Mitch Trubisky all had higher passer rating under pressure as well. It also shows for kinda-mobile QB like Kirk Cousins, Andy Dalton and Baker Mayfield. Wilson is the only mobile QB I noticed who was slightly lower when pressured and that’s because both QB ratings are super high haha. I guess Wentz is in this category too. Meanwhile, immobile QB like Brees and Goff experience the biggest drop-off under pressure.

Now Jameis Winston’s LEAP in QB rating under pressure confuses me becuase he is a terrible scrambler. Maybe he’s just so inclined to throw aggressive picks (he always has been) that calling 7 or 8 man zones is really the best way to beat him becuase he will beat himself trying to make throws that are too close. Same with Matt Stafford. I think we can cross Cam Newton off as a fluke because he was not himself this year.

You'd think teams would have learned from Luck and not throw their franchise QB with obvious shoulder issues out repeatedly in games. They knew it was an issue after their 6th game (4-2), so I understand why you keep playing him when you're 6-2. But after that Pittsburgh beating and 2 more losses, at 6-5...why are you still playing him? Honestly, even after that Pittsburgh game at 6-3 it wouldnt have been crazy to sit him if he's hurt.

Instead, he plays 3 to 5 games too many and might need another surgery on his throwing arm. And all you got for it was...nothing
