Lions O-Line coaching has been bad for awhile, and players excel when they leave here and fail when they come in. TJ Lang, Wagner, both not anywhere near their previous quality. Riley Rieff left here after being pretty abysmal and suddenly is dang good.

But we did hire a new O-Line coach last year, and it seemed like it's marginally better, but still nowhere near the level it should be at

 

I think the Jags need a QB not a O-line coach, hot take

 

We need better OL talent to be good but there's no excuse for us to have the worst at EVERY position. We've invested at least enough to not be the worst in the league at this time. Nick Martin, Greg Mancz, hell even Martinas Rankin have shown that they can be good, and a lot of their lack of performance is MISUSE aka the one thing an o-line coach is built to fix.

Julien Davenport is inexcusable.

 

Anyway I'm done with this stupid ass argument. I'm actually getting heated over this because it's so stupid. Almost ALL our games were 1 score games and fixing the OL makes us legitimately competitive when our QB took the 5th most sacks in NFL HISTORY aka BACK WHEN TEAMS COULD PLAY DEFENSE.

 

I just keep getting more pissed off that you legitimately believe your team needs this and THAT'S the difference between your team winning a Super Bowl or not.

 

Texans already are legitimately competitive. Of course I want the Colts OL coach instead of you guys lol. I can absolutely respect that you’re trying to protect Watson and create sustainable competitiveness. The way your team is built though, you can still win with a bad offensive line. In our case our whole team falls apart if our line isn’t above average.

It’s an “angle” but it’s a legitimate angle. From your perspective I totally see why you feel the Texans are the most needy team, and you’re right, it’s not disputable if you look at it in terms of which team underperformed the most on OL. But let’s not forget that we are rivals and I want to claw my way into the top of the division too. ;)

 

They cannot win a Super Bowl with that line. Like, genuinely cannot. You also risk losing an entire season if Watson gets hurt because of a bad line. Which then their entire team falls apart. How is this an argument?

 

That’s not what I’m saying at all. What I want is for us not to repeat the same mistakes with the next QB. We need to have a running game and line in place or the likelihood of Bortles / Gabbert all over again is very high.

Getting back to competitiveness is a multi step process but if you’re smart OL is the first step.

 

But that IS what I'm saying about the Texans. THAT is the difference between a Super Bowl window being open or closed: Going from #32 offensive line to being at least in the top 25.

 

There is no solution right now that gets us to a SuperBowl lol that window from last year already closed. We need to work on opening a new one.

Smart teams build an offensive line first so they can run and pass easily with a new quarterback.

 

My favorite part of this argument is we JUST hired an offensive line coach.

Panthers OL has potential to be really good. The line this year was so thin but gave up the 6th fewest sacks in the league. We were also 1st in rushing yards per attempt. You can argue they overachieved but it’s still a positive going forward.

Resigning Williams is a priority and became more realistic with his missed season due to injury. I think the team wants him back but we can’t low-ball him. If we can bring him back and sign a new center in FA I think the line will look pretty solid. Matt Paradis would be at the top of the list for me.

IN THAT CASE THE FUCKING STEELERS NEED AN O LINE COACH MORE THAN THE JAGUARS AND THEY HAVE A GREAT LINE

 

So what, since the Jags aren’t a coach away from a SuperBowl it’s not important for them to still make hires that can get them out of this ugly slump?

We can’t only look at this in terms of competitive teams reaching their true potential. In real life bad teams want good coaches too just as badly. Our narrative is completely different but that doesn’t mean “oh we already suck so hiring the dude doesn’t make as big a difference for us”. Of course it does. Going from 5-11 to 9-7 is just as big an improvement as the Texans going from 11-5 wild card to a deep playoff run.

 

Jags need to do nothing. Coughlin is ruining the team. Just let them suck one more year so we clear house

Well duh I wouldn’t even be arguing this if I knew that haha.

But if you expected me to be like “no it’s okay, the 11-5 Texans need help more than the 5-11 Jags” you’re not gonna get that hahaha

The #32 ranked offensive line Texans need offensive line help more than the not #32 ranked offensive line Jaguars

I'm not saying we should fucking sign Antonio Brown because we need offensive help more than you, I'm saying we should improve at our worst coached position where every terrible player we have goes somewhere else and instantly becomes good

 

I love you and the Texans are my favorite rivals. But as a fan, the Jags fell HARD from grace and I have just as much motivation to get back to being a relevant fucking team as you do to continue being competitive
